They weren’t colonized by the Italians. You have to implement some form of institutions and leave long lasting impact. Essentially you must set up a colony to colonize. The Italians did that in Eritrea and it’s evident from just looking around in Asmara but Ethiopia just lost a war and some Italians stuck around and did nothing of note

there’s a section of old Mogadishu called Campo Amhara. Do you know why?

That’s where Italian trained amharas and servants lived. They were literally enslaved by Italians. There were no such thing the other way around.

Not to mention the lasting cultural influence in Ethiopia by Italians. They have just as many loan words as Eritreans from Italians and eat Italian food as well.
