Italy wasn’t really a colonial “power”, the other Europeans considered them a joke and they were a new nation during the 1800s, also they were massively outnumbered in the Battle of Adwa (which included many African Askaris) so their defeat isn’t unique or remarkable.
Also the same Italy came back and conquered Ethiopia in 1936 so I don’t know why you’re overlooking that? Ethiopians (like Somalis and Eritreans ) were under Italian colonial occupation in the form of “Italian East Africa” and they were ruled by fascist Italy for 5 years and their clown “emperor” fled the country in exile.
