Why Are Muslims Allowed to Marry People of The Book when They are considered Worst disbelievers?

The Quran clearly states that the disbelievers of the People of the Book are the worst of all creatures and will spend eternally in jahannum.

So why exactly are Muslim Men allowed-ish to marry them? Imagi your wife and the mother of your kids going to hell. How do people cope with that?

Of course in free for all jannah I’m gonna have my side chickos but I still need my hubby there with me.

Also this is just a question before any of you testosterone filled beasts get offended. Not sure how you’d get offended through the Quran though.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ
98 : 6 Verily, those who disbelieve from among the people of the Scripture and (from among) those who associate gods with God shall be consigned to the Fire of Gehenna. Therein they shall abide. It is they who are the worst of all creatures.

It is really strange, especially because that verse ^ can be juxtaposed with verses like this:

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ وَٱلصَّـٰبِـُٔونَ وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Indeed, the believers, Jews, Sabians and Christians—whoever ˹truly˺ believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good, there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve. 5:69.

Both are Medinan surahs too (supposedly) although surah Al-Bayyinah is contested.

But Surah Al-Ma'idah seems to indicate that there is a group of Jews and Christians who are not abiding by the Torah and Gospel and they are repeatedly admonished for it. INTERESTINGLY, the idea that the scriptures of the Jews and Christians are corrupted and tampered with is not directly found in the Quran. The Quran appears to be concerned only with Christians and Jews misusing the scripture. They are even urged on several occasions to refer to their own holy texts; why do that if their scripture is corrupted? Examples:

وَلْيَحْكُمْ أَهْلُ ٱلْإِنجِيلِ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ
So let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the rebellious. 5:47.

And also:
وَكَيْفَ يُحَكِّمُونَكَ وَعِندَهُمُ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ فِيهَا حُكْمُ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَمَآ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
But why do they come to you for judgment when they ˹already˺ have the Torah containing Allah’s judgment, then they turn away after all? They are not ˹true˺ believers.

Why are they being told to follow their own scriptures if they are supposedly corrupted? Very strange. The only mention of their scriptures being corrupted and tampered with is in this hadith in Sahih Muslim:

O community of Muslims, how is it that you seek wisdom from the people of the book? Your book, brought down upon his prophet—blessings and peace of God upon him—is the latest report about God. You read a book that has not been distorted, but the people of the book, as God related to you, exchanged that which God wrote, changing the book with their hands

Back-propagated maybe? Probably. But to answer your question, I suspect the real reason is probably because in the formative years of Islam, the delineation of the three faiths was not as apparent. Especially later on, after the hijra to Mecca, Muhammad was not as hostile to Christians and Jews in terms of his preaching. It seems like he only had problems with those Jews and Christians (especially Jews) who mocked him and the believers.

I would argue the majority of modern day Christians are not people of the book mentioned in the Qur'an, they are just culturally Christian but actually irreligious. There's a reason Church attendance is in the total gutter, nobody lives by it truly.

One of the conditions to being able to marry from the women of the people of the book was chastity.... And it's no secret very few of them are chaste.
Ibn Katheer said:

This is the view of the majority, which the most correct opinion, so as to avoid the combination of her being a non-Muslim with her being unchaste, which would mean that she is totally corrupt and thus her husband will get, as the Arabic proverb says, “Bad goods and cheated on the weight.” The apparent meaning of the aayah is that what is meant is those who are chaste and refrain from zina.

It's talking about the people of the book and the mushrikun. I think the mushrikun are worse than the people of the book. It's better not to marry women from the people of the book but it is permitted. But I do think it's like Sheikh Albaani said- a lot of the modern day women from among the people of the book are not chaste and they would have to be chaste for you to marry them.
