I’ve gotten to know Somalis that play ice hockey. I also played baseball when i was younger. Somalis dont conform as much to an box. In Scandinavia versus UK. The most whitewashed Somali still speaks Somali fluently

Places with low somali population and limited blacks to copy aa culture from would be more whitewashed. So maybe some continental European countries or nz ? I live in Ireland and before the wave of foreigners I’d say most of the Somalis I meet were very whitewashed, not really these days.

Im just joking I know its a stereotype . Scandi somalis are actually very in touch in back home and even the second gen know the language fluently

I think they have some sort of Somali language schools, i wish i had the proper opportunity in uk, although i would probably learn northern vocab and end up a confused man

I don't think it's possible to be whitewashed as a Somali, every single one I've met has this thick, first-gen East African accent/tone and most certainly has been around other Somalis. That's unless they somehow grew up in a small city or have some sort of self hate.

I had an uncle and cousin who grew up in the UK and they were sent back home to learn the language and came back fluent

Basically my dad is from yemen Hadhramaut region and my mum is from Somalia hargeisa yeah am second gen UK we all speak Arabic in the house my mum's defense is that my dad said don't speak Somali to me so my Arabic is pure and not mixed with Somali (my mum lived many years in uae thats why she speaks Arabic) btw growing up I always thought Somalis were Arabs and that they speak Arabic nope it was just that my mum is a Somali who happened to live and was raised in Arab gulf country to the point where she doesn't like most Somalis cuz she says their mindset is different
