What maximum population can Somali regions sustain?

The UN and WB forecasts that Somali regions population will be 60+ million by 2050.

40 million in Somaliland & Somalia
Another 20 million in Djibouti + Western Somalia + NFD

That's 60 million + Somalis at current growth rates. Somaliland + Somalia would have to add only 500,000 people every year to reach 40m. But could Somaliland and Somalia sustain a population of say 40m? Fertile southern regions probably can, but Somaliland and Puntland cant. But then Ethiopia is damming southern rivers so they will dry up in 15 years. Whereas Somaliland has huge underground water resources.

Either way Mogadishu and Hargeisa are going to have populations of 3+ million and 6+ million in 2050. Burao, Bosaso, Beledweyne will be close to a million each. They will be megacities. :farmajoyaab: :faysalwtf:

Madows and Maay Maay will be a big part of the Southern Somali population. They breed like rabbits in their swampy agricultural areas. :chrisfreshhah:

@World Nah Somaliland and Somalia still have massive potential. We havent even used 5% of our agricultural land. We dont use our water resources. We dont eat or use our fish resources. We dont use our renewable energy.

We could sustain 60 million but they would have to be spread out across the region due to water shortages.

So secondary cities like Burco, Boorama, Las Anod, Bosaso, Galkacyo, Garowe, Beledweyne, Baidoa, Kismaayo, Merka, Barawe etc. would have to be built up. If Hargeisa can sustain 1mn people so can those cities. That would easily increase our population to 40 million. But Mogadishu and Hargeisa can't sustain much more population.

Somalis under estimate themselves

If dry ass Djibouti is projected to have a population of 2 million people by 2050 then there is no reason why Hargeisa won't have 3 million, Mogadishu wont have 5 million and other secondary cities will have 1 million population.

Gedo + J/Dhexe + J/Hoose can sustain Somalis

I think the limit has already been passed.

Don’t forget Somalia survives on remittances and aid.

Should that stop many would starve to death.

So look at what supports the country.

Yeah but think about it. That isnt due to limitations of the land. Its due to ignorance of the people.

The people don't know how to fish. They dont know how to farm. They dont utilise the raw materials. They dont use the renewable energy.

We are sustaining 13 million people in Somaliland + Somalia based on prehistoric levels of nomadic lifestyle. If we actually used our resources we could sustain a much greater population.

@nine Geddo is blessed with resources. All it needs is some roads to Kismaayo port and its exports would boom.
Beled Xaawo is the biggest settlement in Gedo. A proper road to Kismayo would mean almost instant development since it borders Kenya.
It would easily rival Kismayo.

Gedo also has the Dawa River

Its now about having a large population, its about having a smart population especially in a semi arid terrain

Aaegal

I have no proof, only whispers
In my opinion its best to keep the country small... No need for population expansion unless we can sustain 35k+ gdp per capita. That can be achieved in 30 years time but you would need a massive shift in the way the country is run.

We don’t need a big population lol, especially as world resources dwindle by 2050 and global warming hits, we should have most of our population if it’s going to be 60 million, in countries like Canada an Sweden just in case, because living near the equator will be suicide by then, but the ice and cold areas of say Canada will probably melt and be liveable, good thing a good portion of our population has a head start:manny: picking ice cold areas to settle like Minnesota wasn’t such a bad idea, by 2060 it will have long been our colony, global warming will make it bearable and you have thousands of Lakes for fresh water:ahh:

The more the merrier
As 4 those concerned with "how to feed them" just don't. Allah is the provider

I do like the sound of a 100 million Somalis :2tjlv3e:

We should let Somalis increase their population as the successive famines cull the population we can make a Somali’s immune to famines giving us an advantage during the water wars of the future.
