I don't see there importances outside of Somalia and they are the main reason Somalia is still in a terrible state.

I don't even understand clam things but it's a third world things and don't see it helping me gain any time soon.

Plus, compared to others clans and huge families in the world. It's honestly pathetic. At least those clans guarantee success in life just being born in to them but comparing centuries old families and clans whose have been cultivating their resources, talents, connecting to the world stage and clans that are fighting aid workers for food is certainly unfair.

So what value to they provide? Most successful Somali have been self made and not much help from their clans. Except, when a distance relative is asking for a handout

Even if we have oil, it will probably start another civil war or it will be taken over by another government that with the intention to "helping" . We can't even protect are maritime borders from fisherman but big oil companies that produces profits more then are gdb and other government. We have no chance. Also, where will we get it from?

However, if you’re in Somalia, particularly male, provided they’re not from the untouchable tribes, it’s probabaly prettty valuable. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t exist.

Historically? Protection. Right now it is still the same back home. But in the west its useless. My clan hasn't done shit for me. Some of the worst people I know are distantly related to me. All my Somali friends and acquaintances are from other clans too. Mostly Landers and Hawiye's.

That's interesting. I have a more mixed view of qabil. Some of them have been highly resourceful. Others not so much. However I base my assessments of people more on how they present themselves character wise rather than their affiliations or genetic closeness.
