You’re right in that it’s a selfish act to change yourself for the sake of others approval since you’re trying to obtain their interest but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re actively making an effort to build a working relationship with someone else - people do change for others, the ones that don’t are probably highly wrapped up in themselves and lack self-awareness.

People can be self-aware and desire to change but do nothing about it ever. Rhetoric doesn't always translate into sustained action. I wouldn't bet the 'family farm' on someone becoming different specifically for their spouse. Though possible its unlikely. It has to come from them first. Never marry someone with the hope that they will one day change. That day may never come.
You did mention Somalia though:

Prostitution has always been around for a long time, since civilisation was birthed and trading became a thing so your argument that it doesn’t happen in most of the world is invalid; anyways, men have always centred their sense of masculinity on their:
1. Wealth
2. Combat ability
3. Bravery
4. Knowledge
5. Honor
They never factored in their ability to “pull” women as being a core part of their manhood like the modern neurotic male does today - historically, most men would’ve have either taken women from rival tribes/nations after killing their male guardians, have arranged marriages to secure political ties or pass down wealth in the family, and pay prostitutes for further intimacy.
