Does anyone know how much Somali Arab immigrants speak? Just based on hearsay and videos I'm only aware of Arab kids speaking Somali. Adults seem comfy with Arabic because you'll find at least a few somalis who are conversational in Arabic anywhere in major cities

I'll agree that most Somalia aren't fluent in Arabic but especially in big cities many are able to give out small directions or understand ArabI for daily life activities. Even though most people don't speak Arabic in a city like Mogadishu a Syrian would certainly find at least one dude in the street who can translate for basic stuff. So I'd say in a big city for basic stuff and Arab can survive just speaking Arabic in the same way you can survive as an English speaker in countries with mid low English proficiency.This probably creates an environment that doesn't favour Somali language acquisition. Unfortunately the education system is broken and mostly private otherwise it would be easier to teach Af Soomaali to immigrants

It depends. Somalis who are fluent in Arabic are either older 50+ folks who studied it in school or people who lived in Arab countries. In big cities you may find both these categories and we are talking about fluent people. When it comes to the rest of folks I'd say many in big cities can hold a very brief small conversation about "go there, this is the price , give me this , give me that etc" which is enough for very basic conversations. If you are a Syrian who lives in Somalia and mostly interact with somalia for basic stuff like shopping etc you are probably going to survive with just Arabic, obviously to live a decent life you need Somali but I'd say an Ethiopian who knows zero somali and zero English would be more at disadvantage than an Arab who only speaks Arabic
That's my assumption could be wrong though. I have cousins back home who are millennials and gen z , never left Somalia and they can speak a bit of Arabic because they teach it in some private schools sure most can't speak at all , but there are some who can. There were some Arabic only schools before the war and many Somali language schools still taught it as a foreign language so some folks who were educated before the war are either fluent or conversational , at least that's my experience with my parents.
Having said this I'll definitely say you are probably better off using English if you don't know Somali

If the refugee do become hostile it’s the government duty to kick them out or deport. I’d rather have a contributing citizen (regardless of background) that contributes.

Conspiracy mentality you sound like those cadaan supremacist that wants to kick them out for being different? Maybe get off that 4-chan. And realise the problem lies with the government who doesn’t give a shit about Somalis. I think it’s nice if a person from a different background comes to the country and contributes to Somalia. Nobody wants to corrupt Somalia more than the Somali government.
