He wasn’t Solomonic.
Yeah, just skimming his Wiki article alone and some google books skimming seems to impart that his Solomonic descent, if he even had any, was maternal. His paternal line was likely just a normal local Amhara line.
Habesha don't have clans really, so it is basically impossible to trace their paternal ancestry. Also, the "Solomonic" thing is myth invented in the 12th century post Habesha overthrow of the Agaw.
That's why I mentioned the claim wasn't agnatic. Not every nation is strictly patrilineal like Somalis and Arabs. This guy and Haile Selaisse claimed to be Solominids via their female ancestors. Even Charles and William claim to be from the house of Windsor via Elizabeth, when in actuality they're from another German house. Also the Russian Tsars continued to use the Romanov name for the last 150 years of the empire's existence, despite Germans taking over the kursi by the mid part of 18th century. So this case isn't unusual.
