What happened to Somalia's wildlife?

Is there still wildlife in the south? I don't believe they magically went to Kenya, how does that work?

:hmm:

They were chased by violent and unruly Geeljires who came expanding from the north.
I swear, even my uncle caught a cheetah and hunted it. Focking animal antagonizers. :faysalwtf:

Nomadism and overgrazing caused them to disappear more than the civil war.

Most medium to large mammalian species no longer can survive on their own without active environmental protections.

Kenya would be in the same situation if it weren't for conservationist NGOs, safari tourism cash cow funding it all, national parks, foresters etc.

Animals usually flee in times of war and instability. Most of them migrated to Kenya but some are slowly returning back to the south.

according to the study published today in Nature. The longer the war continues, the steeper the declines: a 15-year civil war in Mozambique, for instance, caused one national park to lose 90 percent of its wildlife.

There were also other elements involved such as overgrazing which destroyed the animal habitats and poaching as well.

I saw a cheetah hunting down a warthog while on the road between Garowe and Gaalkacyo, for what it's worth.

Also, every now and then I saw ostriches and these tiny gazelles.

Oh and I think have seen lots of Baboons in Somalia. :mjlol:

This is not in reference to the people. :chrisfreshhah:
We ran over a baby baboon when I visited the homeland. The driver didn't care. The guy was either high off khat or intently looking to get some in the next destination.

The fact that you had to explain yourself, dude. I think people get the context.:mjlol:

I just saw your comment. Do you remember when you saw the cheetah. Was it the same month/year you posted this? I am working on a survey of Puntland's wildlife.
