Although I’m a girl, I noticed when somalis have shorter hair shaved hair it looks very jileec looking even when it’s not really when long. It’s more curly like the bottom pic. Maybe cuz u brushed it out idk

Yeah, sometimes when it's very short I've legit had people be like, "You have straight hair!" only for me to explain that it waves and curls as it grows.

Are those MJs also unusually dark skinned? And sharp featured? My aunt and cousin are. Both very dark and while my aunt's nose isn't exactly pointy, it's very narrow. also shortness is not a bad trait but very unusual since mjs are quite tall from what I see. All Somalis have height to them in fact

The phenotype thats quite common with hawiye (from what ive seen) is darkskin with jileec hair. Im surprised some of your family members didnt fit that criteria i have a lot of family members that have that phenotype but im more brownskin and curly hair. True, Somalis generally have fine hair, that is on the thinner side.
I have 3c/4a hair but it’s coarse and thick. I had a Habesha hairdresser who has many Somali clients tell me that my hair felt more like Habesha hair than Somali hair
I am 1/8 non Somali though so it probably comes from those genes
What's the other 1/8?
Yeah I do think it is the thickness of strands. I recently was looking at my own hair. Typically, if you can roll a strand in between your fingers and not "feel" it then you have fine hair.
