What does the west gain out of destabilizing Somalia?

I'd understand if we were like the DRC and had an insane amount of resources but Somalia is just a small mostly desert country.

our maritime waters are the most unsupervised in the world. thousands of ships a year come to dump toxic waste, overfish, etc.

also today the us accused somali pirates of taking the yahuud’s ship (they didn’t it’s literally impossible for them to do so atp) so they’re probably gonna try to set up a base at the sea so they can control yemen and iran from there cause the saudis failed

Stop scapegoating and placing blame on others. There is no one to blame for destabilizing Somalia except for the Somalis themselves. The West or Europe, quite frankly, don't have any substantial interests in a failed state. Somalia isn't vital to the economic or security interests of the West. We lack accountability for the mess we have created in Somalia.

Whilst I agree on some of the things you said we should be accountable but what happened when the Islamic courts union took control of Somalia and brought stability? They got overthrown by the US and now we have to deal with al kebab as a result

I lived in Xamar when the Islamic Courts Union controlled Somalia. The ICU was the first institution in 15 years to bring an unprecedented period of peace, law, order, security, and stability throughout most of south-central Somalia. No other government or institution in Somalia was capable of achieving that.

But who helped destroy the ICU? Somalis themselves. Abdullahi Yusuf invited Ethiopia to invade Somalia in 2006 and dislodge the ICU from power. That gave rise to Al Shabaab and destroyed the peace we had achieved for six months.

Abdullahi Yusuf was a traitor yes but the U.S. and Ethiopia would have found another way to invade Somalia regardless. The ICU were a Islamist group therefore an enemy in the war on terror.

Generally many reasons.
1-Oil control- we have a huge amount of oil, 6th largest reserves in the world and virtually no oil consumption. We threaten Saudis oil monopoly and we can virtually destroy global prices at our whim even though it wouldn’t be in our interest to we certainly could which threatens the petrodollar and us hegemony over the world. What would happen if we signed a deal with China called the Petroyuan?Oil companies profited almost 40 billion this year alone even though the had the capacity to produce more they didn’t to keep prices high, so we have the ability to threaten the oil market if we’re stable.

2) MENA- US foreign policy. The illusion of the US wanting democracy’s is a facade. They killed irans democracy, algerias democracy. But why is a democracy in Muslim majority nations dangerous? And why isn’t there a strong Islamic democratic nation, especially considering many inhabit resource rich lands? It’s because a Muslim majority nation would not idly stand by and watch the mistreatment of their brothers in other nations. Which is why we have these shitty weak dictatorships now in Saudi and Jordan because a democratic one would most certainly want an oil embargo on these nations or even blocking of the Red Sea to put pressure on Israel.
I mean joe Biden said it himself if there wasn’t an Israel the US would have to create one to protect her interests in the reigion. Why is that? It’s because Islam is contrary to the current world system. Obliging by an international law based on whose values?
Following an international court with whose divine decree?
Having secular nationalism instead of a United Muslim empire. All these things threaten US hegemony and the current system made for them to flout and us to obey.
3) competition- “The best competition is no competition” We occupy an important geographic location which could’ve been our ace but has become a burden since we are weak. Almost all trade coming from Asia to Europe and vice Versa comes through our territorial waters and had we united with Djibouti we have the legal right to tax every single one of them since it falls under of eez. Similar to turkey taxing all boats that pass through the dardanell, and who’s interested in paying tariffs on their cargo? No one, absolutely no one.
thus there’s more incentive for nations to keep us destabilised as we have the capacity to become an economic and military powerhouse in the religion arguably even more than Saudi and that threatens US hegemony, who wants subservient dictators that follow their orders not democratic nations that make their own decisions based on their values and interests as that differs from the US especially as we are a Muslim majority nation were also a potential enemy of Israel which is even more reason to keep us destabilised and neutered so we have no capacity to project our power
I mean just look at turkey, erdogan doesn’t follow the US’s every whim and desire and he’s labelled authoritarian in their media. The US supports greeces maritime claims supports the PKK which turkey has been fighting for so long, tried to sell them us patriots defends system hella overpriced even though there a nato member so they bought from Russia got kicked off the F35 program and got sanctioned. They can’t even get eurofighter typhoons. Had they just been subservient to the US all of this would’ve been avoided but this is what happens when a country prioritises its own interests over the US’s
