I know that Hong Kong is on the menu in the coming months. So one wonders why Taiwan even gave a third world African separatist country the time of day and stir the muddy waters? Some are saying that China start to arm opposition groups and topple the separatist government.

Somaliland should've of pursued China ties not piss China off and establish ties with a separatist Taiwan which no african state dares too, this will only mean China wrath and since China apart of the big 5 on the security council, they will reject any Somaliland recognition through a VETO.

Hong Kong was already considered part of China, given back to China by UK. China has taken a long time to incorporate Hong Kong politically and economically but has been a lot more aggressive lately.

Taiwan is a completely different and Taiwan(ROC) is not part of China(PRC), defining "China" as only including Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Taiwan considers itself the Republic of China hence ROC. China considers itself the People's Republic of China hence PRC. It's very confusing because their political differences is completely different from Hong Kong vs China.

China and Hong Kong is like Somalia and Puntland. (Hong Kong is actually recognized as one part of China simply autonomous in every sense with gradual decline in autonomy over time)

China and Taiwan has no counterpart (closest example would be if you view at Somalia and Somaliland with one huge difference, where SL got chased away from Mogadishu to Hargeisa and doesn't want to secede but they want all of Somalia)

There has been no declaration of piece since the 1949 so they are technically at war, Taiwan claims to be China whilst China claims to be China and Taiwan.. Very complex situation these indhoyar fight on a completely different level

@Somali Napolean I forgot to respond I got to caught up with their politics but in reality China has already made a move on Hong Kong but most definitely cannot make a move on Taiwan.

Taiwan is backed by EU and US.. The US backs Taiwan and even passed a law Taiwan Relations Act.

It is not a separatist government saaxib and they can't topple what's not theirs.. Taiwan land is an ex Japanese island and was never owned by China..

Taiwan claims to be China and this claim is the root of their political differences.
