What does Taiwan engaging with Somaliland mean?

Somaliland is currently a country that is not a member of the U.N. Taiwan ,however, is a first world country with a GDP per capital of $25,000. Has many business ties with China but is also somewhat protected by U.S.A. So the question is why would a first world country risk the wrath of China and seek to engage with a third world country with dysfunctional issues? What possible political benefit is there for Taiwan and what does Somaliland bring to the table?

I cannot see any. :cosbyhmm:

Somaliland should've of pursued China ties not piss China off and establish ties with a separatist Taiwan which no african state dares too, this will only mean China wrath and since China apart of the big 5 on the security council, they will reject any Somaliland recognition through a VETO.

Pathetic foreign policy, they just caused themselves more isolation, who in the world messes around with China, Russia, America foreign policy when your a 3rd world nation.

My thoughts as well. But could Somaliland be playing 3D chess?

Taiwan and SL will engage in cooperation in areas such as fisheries, agriculture, energy, mining, public health, education and technology, they didnt fully establish diplomatic ties they’re just exchanging representative offices. It’s fine imo :manny:

Somaliland is an unrecognized desperate and poorer version of Paraguay to Taiwan. Paraguay had nothing to offer Taiwan in terms of trade and the Taiwanese had to figure out what they could purchase from Paraguay. Somaliland on the other hand has absolutely nothing to offer Taiwan accept press coverage and the meager aid it will provide will prove it.

On the other hand the Pacific island nations have been cutting ties with Taiwan in favor of China so they are shoring up support for a region that's desperate and easily purchasable. Only Swaziland has relations with Taiwan on the African continent and they might soon cut ties with Taiwan as well.

You are larping as a Djiboutian when you are a Somalilander to make it look bad. The truth is Djibouti is growing at 6% and the new railway which incurred the debt only started operating from 2018.

The Economist only showed a figure so stick to it instead of making grandiose claims about Djibouti when your own region Somaliland ceded 19% of its main revenue source to Ethiopia.

I made a point, you are made a false statement while larping as a Djiboutian. Djibouti deals with China, the largest economy in the world on a PPP basis whereas Somaliland wasn't even recognized by a non-UN member.

There's levels to this game.

The Economist made a point and you made a statement to discredit the Economist. I think I know who's more credible

I'll dumb it down for you.

The Economist presented a figure that's it.

I made a factual statement explaining the origin of the debt.

I did not contradict the the figure.

You attempted to make it appear that Djibouti was in trouble.

Okay Mrs Elba

I am bothered by the fact that a Somalilander needs to larp as a Djiboutian to create a false narrative that China is owned by Djibouti. I fundamentally do not understand other than envy.
You’re arguing with an actual fob lol

Let him suck off somaliland in peace
