Dir have a thing for alcohol from what I noticed. All Somali alcholics I have ever heard about or seen are either from Djibouti or Somaliland.

I did have relatives who drunk Alcohol. Their life was in spiral and miserable. Their parents spent resources they didn't have on their own to get them off the addiction. The sadness in the eyes of my grandmother and her silent agony made me realize drinking was not for me.

I do encounter Somali alcoholics occasionally. They are not in their best shape in all aspects and beg for money to get their next fix. Hollow eyes, sleep deprived, sad looking and lanky, they hang out at Somali malls and restaurants.

It is a lesson for anyone who cares about themselves. I even met a beautiful Somali girl whose life was upended by her love of alcohol and she ended up married to a guy from Congo against the wishes of her parents. Her main justification was that the guy would let her live the way she wanted and let her drink as she pleased compared to a Somali guy who would ask her to change for the better. Exactly her words.
