As a rule, I am against any one dedicating resources, if wasting time in linguistics, but in your case, I would make an exception, for you are truly passionate, and do have the ingredients to be a brilliant linguist.

I think if you undertake your Doctoral research in linguistics, and specialise in rare languages, as I think Kushitic languages are, then your future is bright, as I would think, there are not many people in the field.
