What business would you start in your part of somalia?

Construction firm. Plenty of money in building when everyone and their pet fish is moving back or at least visiting every summer.

Within Puntland, I could build basically anywhere or anything. A big recreation center for the youth in Bosaso. Restaurants. Hotels. Gov Buildings. Just need to scale up at the start, with good initial investment.

Start with small projects, and gradually go up in terms of bigger projects. :win:

I am not going to solely own the infrastructure like port, roads, electricity, water, telecom are big meal tickets, they are slow returning assets, but it's safe, it doesn't get any safer then investing into necessities of urban life, rather then luxuries, most spending will happen around basic utilities, most business activity will happen around ports and roads. So I didn't say I was going to build it all myself, but I would contribute 50k towards such a promising industry.

I will have 5 main portfolios. Possibly more when I see new 'strategies' because it's not about businesses, it's about strategy u need to develop and qorsho before u even begin investing or your 'trial n error' will cost u money.

1. Land plots in future political capitals, get in early, hold it, slowly sub-divide plots when the timing is right.
2. Electricity/Water/Port/Airport/Roads if these are privitized by the govt like some are like Garacad port, Electricity, Water is also I will jump in and place a good portion of my cash into it. The only thing that isn't privatized is roads and airports and that may change in the future. I will also be eyeing these future money makers in emerging regional govt capitals when they get their shit together.
3. Fast returning business as a short-term goal of collecting cash quickly
4. Offloading a certain portion of my cash into offshore interest based accounts so it can grow also there.
5. The one I am eyeing the most and where I place a considerable amount of wealth will be the banks, especially commercialized banking based on interest, as long as the govt regulates out the informal black market ones, we will own the loans industry for all the nation or state. If the govt has the right policy of course of creating a middle class thru labour laws and rights and wages that are in-line with realistic probability of a new middle class.

I am very interested in 'machinery' as I think that is the 'gap' in Somalia where I can dominate, cut down on labor costs, and deliver quicker products then standard businesses. I will definitely be eyeing any sector opportunity where machinery is involved and how I can out-do local production on time, cost, and product delivery.
What bank in particular were you thinking? Swiss based?

Thats a great idea wallahi since there's a lot of gyms for men being opened. Also indoor swimming for women only would be a good investment and ice-skaying as we don't have ice-skating rinks.

Very good idea, even a sports centre for women. Somewhere they can play basketball or something.

I can imagine people going to ice rinks for shuuksani and to socialise. Extra revenue can be made from competitions, lessons and venue hire during quiet periods.

idea 1: Desalination of water.
So turning seawater into fresh water and having salt as a byproduct. I think the technology is already there it just needs someone to experiment large scale. So, with the 50k i would buy some arid land and a desalination machine and turn it green sell the produce and the salt..

idea 2: Pottery
I think this idea is really simple and the start up costs are really low. The real challenge is brand building and social media and so on. If you can get hotels to stock ur vases and stuff then it would be a great start... Use raw material available.. the only real cost would be a decent oven and then scaling the business. The designs and stuff are what gives an edge

idea 3: coffee business
Go undercover and find out where ethopians sell their coffee and mimick them.

idea 4: waste disposal company
hire trucks and dispose of waste

Great ideas.

Cant say desalination will be cheap, alot of power required.

Pottery alright but don't know if there will be customer base for that, maybe that can work in kenya or something.

I would buy a seat in the parliament in Mogadishu and turn the 50k into 20 million nacaala everyday I would bring a motion like this somaliland parliamentarian indho who brought forth a motion in somaliland parliament to ban Diana and skin lighting creams

Build schools dedicated to teaching kids and young adults computer skills coupled with English classes as well. Form a mentor, mentee system with someone in the diaspora as an added bonus for enrollment. This has the added benefit of connecting those who live in rich countries with those from back home. Networking is power.

For those that graduate, I'll form a system where they could utilize their computer skills to either work for local business, the government, or the multitudes of jobs that can be found on the internet. I could coalesce them into my own consulting agency and hire them out to companies all over the world to do any number of jobs. For those driven and capable to navigate the internet the most efficiently, they'll be taught computer programming. Once they finish, they'll be hired out to gain skills and experience.

Branch out to cities that have decent internet, slowly expand the horizons of what it is taught at the school with computer mastery at the heart of the learning curriculum and if all goes well have a large percentage of students and alumni that work overseas while in their home country. Build more networks, form a community with a shared identity, expand, and within two decades become known as a major tech hub within Africa. Court al arabia to invest in Somalias own Silicon Valley.

Machine learning, AI infrastructure and space exploration are the visions but that might be too tall of an order. The next Jeff Bezos should come from our people.

You really have thought that through! Sounds like an amazing idea. You should really look into it I can imagine it coming to fruitation.

The youth are hungry for knowledge in somalia all they need is guidance and quality education, most jobs will be tech based and with remote working in any location, i can see outsourcing websites like upwork or fiver becoming a real game changer.

Our youth need to jump on this, i know nigeria and Kenyans are the only Africans globally recognised and hired for IT jobs.
