I think forced assimilation into other cultures has psychologically hurt the Somali community and actually makes our relationship with other Africans worse. My family went through alot of identify issues, especially after my great grandfather converted to Roman catholic and changed his surname. NEVER! We are proud enough of our culture we don't give a f*ck for Western society. Westerners don't assimilate when they go to different countries and they never try to understand anything about the country's culture. Why should we?
