Was Somalia a country before 1960?

All of Somalia was inhabited by Oromo. We were small nomadic group emerging from Southern Ethiopia and gradually conquered the Somali peninsula from Oromo. By the time of Adal & Abyssinian wars both Somalis and Xabashis were exhausted by war efforts. The oromo resurfaced from Northern Kenya and conquered both Somalis and Xabashis.

This lead to a butterfly effect where two large groups of Oromo split from each others embarking different paths. The Eastern Oromo retained their identity, language & culture while the western Oromo adopted Xabashi identity.
this is nonsense; what facts you based on?

Xabashis were more advanced too. They had a monarchy and a continues power struggle over right of succession in a settled agriculture settling.

No, not really. By the 1800s it was a collection of tribal lands and sultanates usually centered on the coast, some small like the Warsangalis and some powerful like the Geledi who won victories against the Abyssinians and ruled large swathes of the riverine south at one point. But if you wanna understand what led up to Somalia becoming a country in 1960 read up on the Somali Youth League:

I think same can be said about non somali
Cuz non somali united even in the past when they didnt have 1 goverment or ruler but somali love to say ooh we didnt have 1 ruler or 1 goverment so it is not best to unite since every tribe had their lands tht doesnt make sense since non somali had tribes had different ruler and lands but they united but somali noo i wont unite with others somali ppl cuz we have different tribes and different rulers and lands

I think this is incorrect bro. Oromos were in jubbaland and it was taken recently(late 19th-early 20th century)

Oromos weren't in central/North or even thr shabeele I believe. In fact, they only really came into the horn in the 16th century with the Oromo expansion.

I also think that we didn't come from South Ethiopia, we'd be mixed like the Oromos if we did. We likely originated around Hararge(oldest clans like Karanle are there)

We only recently became one country, and it ended it up a huge civil war. Since Somalis are nomadic, is it just in our DNA to split apart and be within our tribes? I wonder what would happen if each Somali tribe became its own country (Dir, Darood, Isaaq, Xawiye etc), after a few hundred or thousands of years, would we be different ethnicities?
I would love to see every clan have their own country

This is what the anti Somaliland haters don't understand. Somalia is a colonial project than ended badly. Somaliland has every right claim its independence from somalia.

What? Somalia was not a colonial project. It was created through the lobbying of actual Somalis from pretty much all the clans, even Reer Xamar. And for your information, the north originally wanted the union more than the south did. Read your history, my man.

Yes we did but we left in May 18th 1991. Somalis under one government never existed previous to colonisation is what I was trying to say.

They were not advanced, they were just a shithole isolated kingdom in the highlands no different from the impoverished desert ‘sultanates.’

They had a monarchy, so did many groups including Somalis. Nothing significant. They only became important when the Europeans armed them to expand into other territories in the Horn.

I do not understand why the world glorifies monarchies and farming. That shit is backwards as f and the majority always live like dogs

Somalis never had one empire or country but whenever there was an external threat they would come together and fight against it. Plus the "Somali" identity had to have come from somewhere

The last time when all somalis were ruled and represented by one government is thousands of years ago. Once upon a time we shared a kingdom with other cushetic peoples. We did rule the kingdom though.
When that kingdom disappeared economic powerful city states emerged.

We have a tradition of reclaiming coastal cities as nomadic grazing lands when the cities get abandoned which happens when there is no trade on the coast. Which makes it kinda impossible of keeping record of all those lost cities.
