Waaq was the name for god in Somali

Idk why Somalis like to disregard the fact that we have names for allah in our own language but still call allah god in English and it’s totally fine. Waaq literally just means the one supreme god that’s it which allah is ik it’s not the 99 names of allah but neither is lord or the creator. We can call allah nooleye in Somali and it’s totally fine because that’s what allah is and no one deserves that name besides he.

I believe that’s a different waaq but Walalhi I’m not sure. Waaq in the quran means defender and allah referd to himslef as waaq which is surprising

Waaq's name apparently appears in the historical record:

The Sufi thinker Ibn Arabi (d. 1240) writes:

In respect of the fact that the Truth (Al-Haqq) is the Speaker. He mentions Himself by names … These names themselves have names with us in the language of every speaker. In the Arabic language, the name by which He named Himself in respect of being the speaker is “Allaah”, in persian “Khuday,” in Habashi “Waaq” in the tongue of the Franks “Creator” and so on in every language…. (al-Futuhat al-Makiyya II 683.29)

Most likely a misattribution and Arabi is likely recounting what the Abyssinians' neighboring "Berbers" called their God. Waaq probably survived for a time as a synonym for God even after people converted to Islam.
