Intermarriage is tabo yes but that isn’t really racism. What people fail to understand is that both somali bantus and ethnic Somalis like to keep it within, it’s not one sided. However we don’t treat our bantu muslim brothers differently

Every African Nation has a variation of this; the Dinka-Nuer don't allow their daughters to be married to certain tribes and used to enforce this through violence.

The abusive treatment is well known amongst somalis.

"The life here is good, good," exclaims Muya Malande, 31, who along with his wife, his daughter and three sons, now calls a three-bedroom apartment in the city of Buffalo, in western New York state, home.

"The Somalis used to assault us," explains Mr Malande who learned his English working for the relief agencies in the refugee camps.

"They treat us badly, kill my brothers, rape, take our things, treat us like slaves."

You're pretty tall; just make sure you don't look too skinny as well.
Most somalis are tall, it’s something we share with nilotes (and probably got through having Nilotic blood).

I’m 6’2, my brothers 6’4 and my sisters are all between 5’10-6’1:trumpsmirk:

I can speak for my own clan and can tell you this. The mayor of jowhar district is a shidle bantu man. Jowhar district is split almost 50/50 between abgaal somalis (and other minority somali clans) and shidle bantus so riddle me this, if we are discriminatory, why would we let them have mayor of a district we have as much claim to as they do? Bantus are treated the best in the south with rahanweyn treating them even better than we do and occasionally even intermarrying with them

We all need to pack on muscle mass and we'll be gods. :denzelnigga::rejoice:

Being tall is really awesome; I can't imagine being as short as the Ethiopians, Yemenis and Asians.:idontlike:

It scares me to think we’re distantly related to habeshas, they’re so short. It’s not even a stereotype I’ve just actually never met a tall habesha before and I live in an area full of them:deadmanny:

I cant comment on jowhar specifically, but wasnt there interclan clashes between the abgaal and jar33weyn in that region?
I wouldnt say the racism is overt with jim crow laws like in 1900 Alabama, but it's more covert and similar to what you'll find in the arab world and in somaliland/puntland where many live in too, also in the south i think the racism is worse in places where they dont have very deep roots in like in xamar and kismayo.

Those guys are really small and that reputation is well deserved; it's all the more impressive that their ancestors were able to conquer large swathes of the Arabian peninsula.

Yeah there was violence between abgaal and bantus but that ended a while back and the bantus were allowed back in the town.

Racism definitely exists but it’s individual and not systemic, bantus get seats all over the south specifically hirshabelle and jubaland. Hell even in beledwyene the makane bantus were fighting jijeele (ethnic Somalis) and ended up killing many jijeele with other ethnic Somali clans like Xawadle taking the bantus side, it’s almost like bantus are just considered another somali clan in the south tbh

Discrimination is common in kismayo but not xamar. The inhabitants of kismayo are culturally northerners. Clans like marehan, Ogaden harti etc have northern culture not southern so they tend to be more racist. Xamar is the biggest city in the country, the people there are diverse and liberal so discrimination tends to be lower

Tbh, their ancestors were the conquered ones. Your average habesha is just an agaw who started speaking a semetic language after being conquered by the saebeans who then reconsidered the Arabian penisula after conquering and assimilating the habeshas

They got conquered but they turned the tables around at some point and did the conquering, so it's not all shame. Modern Ethiopia is still an imperial State.

There's definitely racism on a social level in xamar.
"We owned a small piece of land in Hodan neighbourhood [in Mogadishu] but it doesn’t belong to us anymore. It was taken by a Hawiye family and since we are Bantu we can’t go and claim it.37

In testimony given to MRG for this report, interviewees often referred to hate speech terminology, deriving from prejudicial socio-cultural attitudes of contempt and a legacy of slavery. They reported verbal abuse being commonly used against them by members of majority clans, who disparaged them on the basis of their minority status and identity. Several members of Bantu and occupational minority groups spoke of being routinely insulted with derogatory language and name-calling. Bantu are still sometimes referred to as adoon, a Somali term for ‘slave’. A 40-year-old Bantu bus driver in Mogadishu recounted the following to MRG: I live in a small two-roomed slum house. Life is very hard…We often face discrimination in the society we live in [i.e. from majority clans, who are mainly Hawiye in Mogadishu]. The passengers insult me. When they want an excuse to yell at me, they tell me to stop the vehicle when it is exactly where they want to alight, and since the bus cannot just come to a halt, I have to stop a few steps away from where they told me to stop. Then insults and shouts come at me in their dozens…My people are given names and despised.58 Sometimes, I would prefer to work with a wheelbarrow [as a porter], which is common among my people in Mogadishu, so I could share with them these problems.
