Unukaa leh languages

Using your logic, English speakers have “abandoned” their words for using French words instead of authentic English words of Germanic roots? Arabic speakers have “abandoned” their words for using Turkish, Syriac, Coptic etc loanwords instead of authentic Arabic words with semitic roots?

You don’t see how ridiculous this sounds? It’s ok to have loanwords, there’s nothing wrong with it.
English and French have loanwords from both these countries. It’s a two way street, they both benefited. What loanwords did Arabs take away from you? Or did they completely have influence over you which made you abandon your own vocabulary? Your logic makes no sense. In Arabic there are Persian and Turkish words, they’ve been exchanging traditions for centuries and have adopted each other’s vocabulary. It goes both ways, now tell me. What Somali words did the Arabs learn from you? :mjlol:

The Arabic gets worse in the north. A lot of people are tryna force Arabic down our throats. Some Somalis will say eryga sharaab unukaa leh, some won’t even acknowledge the Somali words we have and will use Arabic instead. Let’s talk about the shaqsi nebeed within the community. There is no kalsooni, I’m using specific Somali words because waxaan waa ceeb. It’s actually making me cringe just thinking about it
Who told you that these words are only used in the North? It is used in the south too

somali is an arabic dialect . face (weji) and right (sax) are both arabic loanwords.
Even the word breakfast quraac
is arabic xanaaq and angry Also Arabic When you understand the Yemeni Arabic dialect And Old Arabic will be shocked by the number of Arabic words in the Somali language. Almost 40% of our language is Arabic, Persian and Indian.

Somali is a dying language. We lost our days of the week to Arabic and we also lost our traditional Somali calendar to the Italian language. Stop derailing

exactly. somali is practically arabic atp

those are the most basic words a language can have. face and right too. over 40% of our language derives from arabic.
Don’t get me wrong you’re absolutely right. I don’t think it’s a dialect though, Somali is a completely different language. We’ve adopted Arabic and ran with it leaving behind our Indigenous vocabulary.

What do you consider the south?
The south is worse, the more their language is affected by the Semitic Amharic, Swahili and Italian words like ukun It's Amhara And several other words spoken by coastal residents are of Swahili origins

Every time someone complains about Somali having too many loanwords it exposes them as a Hooyo Mataalo who doesn’t speak classical Somali.
