First no one is 100% perfect or an angel. She made a lot of mistakes as a politician that was not favorable for the Somali community. I don’t support her fully, but still she doesn’t deserve all that bullying. As a Somali girl who had similar upbringings to her I am really amazed that someone who looks like me is famous and well-known and not for her appearance or body. I am looking up to her character as a confident and outspoken woman. She is strong, I can’t imagine myself like that until now, all that hate she is getting continuously is insane, but she is still alive, waking up, living like any other human. She is a woman and made mistakes. Of course her mistakes would be magnified million times. That is a universal rule that can’t be arguable and it is not fair. She is a role model for so many young girls that are still being brainwashed by their families. But “men” will never ever understand and will never see it from that perspective.instead of lying to defend her and play the they hate a strong Somali Muslim woman. Read this and tell me how any Somali should respect her? She lied about a bill that would give Somalia a relief in their debt and when exposed said as great as the bill is she won’t vote for it until Palestine and Venezuela get taken care off.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05) was “thrilled” that Congress secured debt relief for Somalia, but ultimately voted against the appropriations bill that provided that relief.
“I am thrilled we were able to secure debt relief for Somalia today. Somalia continues to hold crushing amounts of debt—which holds back the economy and keeps millions of Somalis in poverty. This doesn’t just have an impact on Somalis in Somalia, but on the thousands of Somali- Americans who live in my district and have family in the region,” Omar said in aDecember 17 statement.
She called the debt relief package a “major milestone that validates the incredible progress Somalia has made in the past several years.”
“Debt relief is a step in the right direction, and I look forward to continuing to work for the free, peaceful, democratic Somalia we all want to see,” said Omar. The freshman congresswoman, however, voted against House Resolution 1158, an appropriations bill that provided debt relief for Somalia, and House Resolution 1865 because they both “fail to hold this president accountable for his human rights abuses.”
Shortly after releasing her first statement, she issued a second statement explaining why she actually voted against the bill.
“Rather than using our mandate for reform, the national security bill passed today maintains the status quo in foreign policy, giving the president a blank check to continue unwinnable wars, allows him to fund his racist border wall, and increases funding for human rights abuses under ICE,” she said.
This, according to Omar, is “simply unconscionable.”
“The second package maintains the global gag rule and the Hyde amendment, creates a backdoor way to eliminate aid and starve the Palestinian people, recognizes support for Juan Guaidó as President of Venezuela and includes $1.3 billion in military funding for Egyptian dictator Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,” she continued.
According to Reuters, Somalia has about $5 billion in external debt, which accounts for nearly 100 percent of its GDP. The U.S. is the largest creditor and holds about $1.1 billion in the country’s debt.
The bill was voted for bipartisan and most democrats and republicans supported it. So politically voting for it would have zero effect on her negatively. Secondly she lied implied she supported it praising the bill and how much it would help Somalia and only when exposed she didn’t vote for it she released a second statement explaining why and cited Palestine and Venezuela as reasonsFirst no one is 100% perfect or an angel. That bill included so many other things than the somalia debt relief plan who would further Donald trump actions and she voted against what he wanted and she was the one who actually added the Somalia Debt Relief plan from the start.
I would quote from a source “the bill was filled with so many other appropriations/resolutions. Somalis was like less than 1% of that bill.
This bill provides FY2020 appropriations for several federal departments and agencies.
It includes 4 of the 12 regular FY2020 appropriations bills:”
she’s the reason why debt relief was even added to the bill. She voted against it when it was clear it would go throughinstead of lying to defend her and play the they hate a strong Somali Muslim woman. Read this and tell me how any Somali should respect her? yes ur right, the leader is only a reflection of their peopleLet’s be honest here , most people dislike the way she conducts herself on social media and In real life but most Somalis BORN in the west share her political views . these Somali republicans or conservatives that align themselves with cadaans are an extreme anomaly .
Somali women wearing hijab with liberal views are the norm at least when I see ilhan I see a real Somali woman can’t say the same for the conservatives I honestly have never met a Somali woman hijab or not that align themselves with European or American conservatives but hijabis supporting gay rights is the norm.
She’s not lying in regards to America. Most young Somali Americans (17-32) share Ilhan views. I’d say way more than half. The amount of outrage about the abortion law in America I’ve seen on Instagram of girls I know or know off was staggering. Most of these girls wear hijab like Ilhan does. You just waffling at this point.
Have you ever thought it’s because the abortion/contraception ban doesn’t align with islam? In christianity you can’t use contraception and abortions are 100% not allowed. Islam isn’t like that. You cqn get an abortion under islamic jurisdiction and there’s nothing wrong with using a condom or birth control pill. She’s not lying in regards to America. Maybe it’s different in Europe and Arabia but America is a whole different ball game.
