the elephant in the room is that the fgs needs amisom. the fgs cant launch a hyper violent approach because its too weak. also having kdf and endf troops being present for 10+ years means you wont build a strong fighting force because their governments dont want (and never wanted) a strong somali army.

If you could kill your way out of an insurgency Afghanistan would be Soviet, South Vietnam would still exist and Assad would still be in Damascus. If the Somali government behaved the way you recommended not only would they run out of recruits within a week or two, they would go bankrupt because the IC wouldn’t fund them and many clan militias would switch sides to the kharawij.

Not comparable to Somalia's situation. All those groups (Taliban, Viet Cong, Assad) were being backed by major powers who funded and gave them a steady flow of weapons and training. Al-Shabab is an internationally recognized terrorist group that is sanctioned and lacks any key allies beyond alledged Iranian/Houthi support. They can be crushed like Al-Qaeda was in Iraq.

Puntland is literally demolishing ISIS in much harder to fight terrain, no excuse for FGS not doing the same with Al-Shabab. Its simply corruption that prevents so.

They have been fighting for 13 years against 20k African union troops and unlimited American aid. IS-S has 1000 members that are mostly foreign and hasn’t been able to gain local support. They’re really not comparable.
