Yeah, this suggests we were already average in 2015. No doubt we've improved since.

This is exactly what I'm witnessing irl. Me and friends have got good professional jobs. The younger generation are doing well, and they're getting into top universities.

The reason we don't have many world class scientists back home is due to a lack of funding . Science is expensive. Good uni labs can be £10m+. I know that universities back home have v basic equipment. With no money, you can't attract good scientists, and therefore the research + teaching students receive will likely be sub-par, so you won't develop scientific talent.

I'm sure uni students from back home would do well if given the chance to study in the west. But our country isn't in a place to invest in science at the moment. Hell, people are dying from droughts.

Objectively incorrect. The reason why somalis have failed in this world is because they are incapable of adopting to modern customs. The japenese were in a similar circumstance, but due to superior iq they managed to industrialize completely within a couple of decades by themselves.
Every technological development in Somalia during it's so called "golden age" was merely a byproduct of colonialism - can you name one (1) Somali scientist during the mid twentieth century?? Tribes governed themselves or were governed by local tribal Xeer (Law). The concept of being ruled or lorded over was next to unheard of. Though some clans had their own Ugaas, Sultan, Boqor or Garad, for the most part rule was egalitarian. Its hard to manage those who are sovereign and do not easily take dictums from others. They are not obedient and hierarchies (beyond them being on top) are a foreign abstraction to them.

My father's uncle was a scientist that graduated from the University of Chicago with an Advanced Degree in the STEMs in the 50s. He worked in Somalia despite being educated in Ethiopia. Why? Because there were no universities and few if any high schools in Somalia proper at the time. He also helped thwart a TB epidemic plaguing Mogadishu while serving in the government. I realize some individuals lack examples to model themselves after (through no fault of their own) but there are no excuses to be self-loathing. Also since you do not have to contend with nepotism or limited opportunities like individuals would back home then you owe it to yourself to do what is denied of others (in the Global South) and strive.

Honestly, Somali early modern elites were pretty impressive forward thinkers when you compare them to a very similar neighboring culture in Arabia. Our elites were running around dreaming of unified states, our own writing systems, adopting ideas like democracy and forming political parties while Khaleejis were still very firmly living in the Middle Ages.

Those two are Siad Barre fanboys, they want a dictatorship, but with their uncle at the helm, it's not even a genuine love for dictators, but more so a fetish for their 'Aabbo' to dominate Somalis.
