Even if she does, the minister has the discretion to issue expensive FGM reverse operations and needs all sides of the narrative. It is his portfolio to deal with such an issue, therefore hard and inappropriate questions for the common person like you, dhehdheer and me should be asked. Within that context, the minister has to justify the need for more funds to "rectify" this evil process and restore the natural rights of these women. It is how the system functions. Let's not be obscured by the hatred of Somalis towards the Conservatives. I think the minister had a right to ask Nimco her personal experience in order to commit to a new funding.

If you're going to be an anti-fgm activist, surely it would be wise to seek ties with the incumbent govt/administration regardless if their views don't align with yours yet it seems Nimco's prejudged bias (her twitter account is proof) towards the Tories and faux-outrage against the health minister has turned Jeremy Hunt's (albeit naive) legitimate question into a sensationalist headline which won't help anyone.

But isn't FGM mainly propagated/supported by women themselves? Also, another campaigner, Leyla Hussein, had this to say:

“I have been spat on, shouted at and attacked by men in balaclavas. I have had to have three different types of alarm fitted at my home. I do not let many people know where I live now. The worst offenders have been Somali women. Women from my own community.”

I agree though, we must put ourselves in their shoes to know why they are proactive against this barbarity but surely some of the methods these activists choose are counterintuitive to the cause such as visiting primary/secondary schools that are filled with 'indigenous' cadaan kids and in graphic detail explain the procedures to these innocent kids.

Surely it would be more effective to educate communities that do practice FGM instead? (Somalis, Ethiopians, Nigerians, Egyptians etc.)
