Only good things will come from this meeting.

Long Live Turkey. Egypt is pretending to be a regional power, when its a fragile state with no power projection.

Turkey is in it for themselves. They want Egypt to back off in Libya or they will aid Ethiopia.

Egypt is a langaab Cassel state of the west and Israel. Egypt has no been castrated by the Chad turkey.

Turkey can provide technical assistance and technology transfer to Ethiopia in many fields including defense industry. Turks have a very different approach to technical cooperation when compared to the West. The Turkish approach is centered around technology sharing with the underdogs.

India has recently signed $2.1 billion deal with Turkey to build 5 Navy support ships. As part of the agreement, Turkey will train the Indian workers which also includes technology transfer.

Think about it. India chose Turkey over South Korea despite the fact that Turkey is an ally of Pakistan. Turkey is also building Navy ships for Pakistan and upgrading the French manufactured submarines in service of the Pakistani Navy.

Ethiopia stands to gain a lot if it plays its cards right with Turkey.

I just watched the video above. Wow, I didn't know there were so many young Ethiopians residing in Turkey!

Are they international students or Turkish citizens? That habesha girl, Gelila, is beautiful even with minimal make-up.

Turkey and Ethiopia have been cooperating in many fields for decades now.

Turkey is building this rail way for example.

Ethiopia has practically won this war of actions and words.

Now it's on Egypt to make a move which realistically they won't because Sisi is a coward. Any other leader and I would have been worried.

This is why I don't trust the Turks in Somalia, we should get them out. They are clearly taking advantage of us in our weakened state.

How? What advantage did they take in Somalia?

The Turkish presence is our insurance policy against our neighborhood hyenas, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Our priority should be getting the Amisom and Habashis out of Somalia, not the Turks.

There are two interesting aspects to the Turkey-Ethiopia meet-up.

1. The meeting was requested by the Ethiopian side. It looks like it was prompted by the Egyptian moves in Somaliland vis-a-vis the military base.

The geopolitics of the Middle East and the Horn of Africa up until now was dominated by the US. The two newcomers are Israel and Turkey. Both are scoring big in the US Trump era of self-withdrawal from the area.

Israel now got Egypt, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan and upping its reach of Eritrea and Somaliland and has special relationship with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Turkey got Libya, Qatar, Palestine, Somalia and increasingly Tunisia in its orbit. And Yemen is slowly drifting towards Turkey. Big chunks of Syria and Iraq are under the Turkish control too. I predict that Lebanon will eventually come to Turkey asking for help against Israel, Iran and Hezbollah. It turns out the Turks are good at knocking out Hezbollah forces as they did in Syria.

Up until now Ethiopia was standing away from the geopolitical developments in the region and chose not to be anchored to any entity since historically it was never colonized.

It looks like there is now an understanding in Addis Ababa that Egypt would have not gone to Somaliland to request a military base without an ok from Israel and the US. The mistrust is building up. Apparently the belief that there is special relationship between Ethiopia and Israel has its limits among Habashis. Addis Ababa was also banking on the fact that Saudi Arabia and the UAE made big investments in the country and would not allow Egypt to jeopardize those investments. They seem to be in doubt now.

As a precaution against possible negative scenarios, Ethiopia wants now to bring in Turkey on board politically and possibly militarily. Turkey is already openly supporting the GERD dam which is a plus.

I think Addis Ababa wants to start getting close with Turkey in case the war breaks out and request Ankara to supply its devastating armed drones, advanced electronic jamming systems and satellite reconnaissance for free in exchange for granting the future development contracts to the Turkish firms since Ethiopia doesn't have funds right now and extremely poor. Libya used the same approach with Turkey to turn the tide of their war.

2. There is growing discontent among Egyptians about the handling of the GERD negotiations by the military regime of El-Sisi. The belief is that El-Sisi did not take the issue seriously and let it deteriorate and now it is too late. It is sort of like a college student procrastinating, partying and doing the term paper a night before the deadline. Egyptians are now talking about that a civilian government would have done better in regards to the dam negotiations. This might spark social unrest in Egypt and spell the end of the military junta headed by El-Sisi.

Ethiopia has a long held policy of having good relations with any two parties that are in conflict with each other. We have good relations and economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Israel and of course the US. This is a long term policy and will not change so easily just because Egypt went to SL. Turkey companies have been investing in different fields including textile for decades in Ethiopia. We may enhance our relationship to another level since we have now a common enemy but that doesn't mean we will be emotional and abandon our relations with Israel or the US. That is not how our foreign policy works.

It is true that historically Ethiopia maintained close relationships with different sides without anchoring itself to alliances. This was so with the USSR and lately China.

The latest developments in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa are worrying. The news is the Russian Wagner military forces have already started withdrawing from Sirte and Al Jufra further east in Libya leaving the oilfields to Turkey. The Sudanese Janjaweed mercenaries are leaving the area as well.

There were intense back and forth negotiations among Erdogan, Trump and Putin for the last several weeks. I think Turkey has beefed up its military presence in Libya and secured the backing of the US, the UK and Italy. Judging by the UAE FM, Anwar Gargash's statements, the UAE was expecting the Turkish takeover of the area anyway. In reality the US has put brakes on the UAE. The Russians are struggling with the hostile attitude towards them by the East Libyan tribes. And now it looks like the UAE will taper off the payments to the Wagner group as the US has started imposing sanctions on entities doing business with the Russian mercenary group. There is also a rumor that Erdogan threatened to invade Egypt in self-defense if provoked in Libya by Egypt. That is the last thing that the US and Israel want.

All it means now is that Egypt can divert its attention to Ethiopian dam issue. I wonder how the things will develop now. Will Egypt throw support the TPLF and sow discord in Ethiopia?

Overall it was a smart move for Ethiopians to start talks with Turkey right now. It looks like Turkey is getting serious about coming to Yemen. The UAE is so worried now that it is reaching out to Somalia. Lol
