Why do so many Somalis have Dictator Daddy syndrome?
I always noticed it is mainly Marehan (and some minorities) who defend Barre passionately. Marehan support him for obvious reason, minorities enjoyed a lot of protections and prestigious positions under government.
The person who wrote that tweet is either too young or ignorant qabilist. In the 70s and 80s most of the world had no access to the internet, we were not as connected as today and news may take years to travel. The Kacaan had tight grip on media and interactions with international agencies. Somalia was cut off from the outside world people used to communicate with each others using letters or cassette tapes or VHS that's why exposure to international media was very limited and as a whole, the world in general paid very little attention to a poor desolate country like Somalia until it was too late.
So I kinda understand why people think Somalia was such a great place to live in the past just by looking at old pictures of Mogadishu you would get false image of peace and prosperity but the moment you dig a little deeper you come to realize the hard truth. Somalia was not special, we are the same as any other country ruled by dictator.
