TRUE STORY? General Siad Barre

Why do so many Somalis have Dictator Daddy syndrome?

I always noticed it is mainly Marehan (and some minorities) who defend Barre passionately. Marehan support him for obvious reason, minorities enjoyed a lot of protections and prestigious positions under government.

The person who wrote that tweet is either too young or ignorant qabilist. In the 70s and 80s most of the world had no access to the internet, we were not as connected as today and news may take years to travel. The Kacaan had tight grip on media and interactions with international agencies. Somalia was cut off from the outside world people used to communicate with each others using letters or cassette tapes or VHS that's why exposure to international media was very limited and as a whole, the world in general paid very little attention to a poor desolate country like Somalia until it was too late.

So I kinda understand why people think Somalia was such a great place to live in the past just by looking at old pictures of Mogadishu you would get false image of peace and prosperity but the moment you dig a little deeper you come to realize the hard truth. Somalia was not special, we are the same as any other country ruled by dictator.

the somali people are forever intertwined sxb regardless of current borders, I would love to one day travel from garisa, jigjiga, djibouti city, hargiesa, bosaaso, galgaco, mogadisho via a road trip. I don't believe there should be visa or hostilities between the people who found themselves on the opposite sides of the borders :)
You're dreaming sxb. Just because Somali people speak the same language and are largely homogenous doesn't mean we like each other.

I better not catch you in either Kismaayo garrissa or jigjiga.

Such absurd claims flyby without challenge in this time and age shows that Somalis are largely ignorant. If a brutal incompetent dictator is your'e highest benchmark on how a modern state should be, than you are either covertly masochistic or have daddy issues.

I noticed some Arabs have the same tendencies to conflate dictators or state leaders with a universal father figure. Suuni Arab Iraqis worship Saddam Hussein with the same dedication and zeal demonstrated by some Marehan on here.

Look up father complex, it is real.

I want to retire by a coastal area man, somewhere between Marka to Raas kaambooni, who knows we might end up being neighbors :)

A lot of similarities are drawn between socialist secular government of Sadam Hussein (Ba'ath) and Siad Barre (Kacaan)

Darood - Suuni Arabs he's most devoted & loyal supporters (MOD)

Hawiye & DM - Majority Arab Shia in south Iraq & Baghdad who'm he ruled over and marginalized (USC in Mogadishu)

Isaaq - The Kurds he detest and perpetuated Anfal Genocide, coincidentally they are secessionists in present day Kurdistan (SNM in Somaliland)

The point being Siad Barre's immediate family has been implicated in controversial arrangements right under his nose per Washington post.

Or do you want us to believe they fled abroad without a single penny leading a frugal lifestyle in exile like you average qaxoonti?

Does anyone expect me to believe a dictator who came in through a coupe, killed to remain in power, regularly engaged in clannist nepotism, and forcefully placed his pictures everywhere in the country was some sort of honest man?

That guy who runs the account is a kacaanist Isaaq from Hawd
