I believe that’s an old wedding practice called Al Butan, where basically the groom will whip his close friend/relative as a form of testing their loyalty and strength, and whoever whips must also return the favour, and accept being whipped in a future marriage celebration, it’s practiced by the Riverine Sudanese Arab tribes and the Sudanese Arabs in the Butana/gezira
