To the somalis from London

How was life growing up in areas across London where the somali population wasn't big I'm mainly talking about places like Hackney, Lewisham, Brixton etc. How was school and life in general for you. Me I lived in an area with quite a lot of Somalis so I was always around my people but for some reason hardly interacted with them especially when entering school which is a shame thinking about it now, I was just around a lot of indians and cadaans and it was aiite, wish I had somali friends tho...

I also lived in areas with a lot of Somalis. Most of my friends were Somalis and life was generally good. All our families were quite social and would visit each other occasionally.
As for friends, after college and university, you would eventually lose most of your friends as they get married or are busy trying to build up their careers and you won't even have time to hang out. Most of my friends from uni were desi, nothing wrong with that but nothing beats being around your people.
Don't just become friends with any Somali, befriend a good, ambitious person and you will become like them. Try to attend Somali focused events such as these ones:

I haven't attended any of these because I cba but do plan to in the near future.

I grew up in a part of london with lots of somalis but my peticular neighbourhood was filled with all sorts of people. On my street i got to know brazillians, scottish, Malians, jamacains, lots of pakistanis and indians and Philippinos ect.
Although i had lots of somali friends, i wasn't really super connected to the somali community since i chilled with all ethnicities and my ends are hella diverse.
