Time to end the Madhalays Republic of Somalia

I missed these lines, and would ask you to re-calibrate your thinking in that the horrors you speak of are the result of brutalities unleashed upon civilians populations by the military regime: an accumulation of years of persecution, and wanton murders, at last, giving birth to chinless chancers. Pray, spare a thought for those priors before blasting its ill-effects, while fondly reminiscing its legacy.

But, hey, I am tempted to concede, and agree with you having just read some of the comments, elsewhere in the forum, by some wimpy wanderers.

30 years after brutal massacres and horrors not seen hitherto on the Somali peninsular, the situation remains as precarious as ever. After what happened in 91 where my kith and kin were burned alive in their villages, thrown into rivers for the hungry crocodiles to feast, killed Ψ΅Ψ¨Ψ±Ψ§ (shackled and shot point blanc), and yet despite all of that where the same genocidal intent remains (a la 'jinnigaad ka timi iyo Jigjiga ku noqo'), how is it conceivable to continue sharing a state?

My dear @Abaq, this bears relevance to the topic. May you listen to it, and cherish.

It is due to the Laascaano 'jidbo' that I delayed responding to this. With things over there beginning to die down, I'll be back shortly with my take on things.

However, in the meantime, I would like to offer an apology to our Hutu members. I insulted their lineage which is not only distasteful but also dambi. For that, i would like to formally apologise.

When other communities say it they get a pat on the back. If we said this we'd be bombarded with accusations of going against 'Somalinimo', they'd call us everything under the sun.

Sophi, please realize that Somalinimo is a politically motivated term that is used to further a certain agenda. The same people that were attacking us in other threads are awfully silent or even supportive of the same thing we were advocating here. When the clans switch, it's a completely different standard. It's ok when it furthers their agenda but when it furthers ours then we are the ones causing division. Somalinimo is the spawn of the devil.

Daroods have crumbled and abused the somalinimo card especially Majeerteens. They get on to SL day and night for wanting to separate but they are dowlad diid themselves in terms of them basically acting like confederalists/semi - independent. They are now abusing the nationalism card because it works in their harti brethrens in laascanod agenda. All just very hypocritical in my opinion.

This is why I disowned the idea of somalinimo long time ago as it only benefits a certain clan and they throw it away when it doesn’t suit them in certain situations and milk it when it does

No worries, we shall revisit when the time is right.

The concept of Somalinimo is about respecting each other and uniting for a common goal. Whoever uses it for clan benefits should be called out rightfully so. Whenever a terrorist attack happens, Daroods are some of the first people to help and donate. Politics aside we are all the same people, you shouldn't judge a large group based on the few words of political elite.

Somalia is a federal republic and the federal states have a high degree of autonomy.

There's not a lot of benefits for a state to secede, i think there is more negatives in seceding because you will loss the opportunities that comes with being part of a larger political entity like common currency, shared market and infrastructure.

There’s a different case for elites however. They want their area to be closed off to their family and allies for all the government contracts. For example Bihi makes a lot of money from the electricity sector.

If you have a federal government that has an ability to pass laws on electricity and breaks the cartels then this will be a massive loss to the President.

I agree that the average person benefits from free trade and movement. Hence why the EU becomes more integrated unlike the disastrous African states who are splintering under the weight of clan democracy.

You're right, elites are using their political positions as business ventures for personal gain. If Somalis weren't in a coma they'd hold their local leaders accountable.

Sxb don't use my FKD post to push whatever agenda you have. (It was aimed at HAG and I've already apologised). My opinions on the colonial project called Somalia is something else however. And if Somalinimo really existed, we would be a normal country so cut the nonsense sxb

I think many agree that Somalinimo is more of an ideal of fraternity with people sharing the same ethnoracial identity. It's more of a sentiment rather than a political 'on-the-ground' reality. Critiquing it isn't the problem. If there is anything we should do its to adopt unapologetic Awdalism/Harawoism among our kinfolk to counteract allegiances to political entities that don't serve us be they recognized or not.

I dobt think there was ever somalinimo in the first place.
Somalia is a social construct created by the western imperialists and had a purpose. That is the same reason you will see that SL was denied independence by the west yet yet South Sudan was granted.

Because Somalis never fought for independence apart from the Sayidka and some clans that are at the fore front of Somalinimo never had viable states pre colonialism and some were even collaborators of colonialists.

The same folks when handed power to rule Somalia wojld result to parroting Somalia toosow while destroying the fabric of the society.
Like kacanka.

Allahayoow Ferenjigii muxuu, nacas fariideeyey
Faa'iido laawiyo muxuu nin ragga, feyl ka wada yeedhshay
Nimaan aabihiis fuuli jirin, faras muxuu saaray

Sayid Maxamed Cabdille Xasan

As a scion of the House of Ogaden, it would be amiss for me to start my piece without quoting the poetry of the Sayid of the Somalis, the first and the last of them, Sayid Maxamed Cabdille Xasan, prince of the House of Ogaden, may Allah have mercy on him and be pleased with him. In these lines, the Sayid laments how the coloniser after his arrival debased the once noble clans and raised the ignoble lowly ones to status and authority. In the last line "Nimaan aabihiis fuuli jirin, faras muxuu saaray" he paints a poignant picture of how the coloniser made horsemen of men whose forefathers had never ridden a riding beast before, let alone be competent in the equestrian arts. The Sayid expresses his frustration at how the lowly ignoble clans with no history to speak off had been favoured and given preferential treatment by the coloniser, and by necessity, how the noble clans with history and prowess before the coloniser arrived had been totally sidelined, ignored, and worse, subdued.

Before colonisation, in the Somali peninsular there were clans that were far ahead of the pack, clans with nobility and history. Clans such as the Ogaden which had a functioning traditional authority with some level of state development. The Ogaden had just conquered large swathes of the of the Somali peninsular, enslaving and subduing countless natives and confiscating millions of head of cattle and sheep in the process. The Ogaden conquest had reached far into the foothills of the Abyssinian highlands to the North and West, and deep into Central Kenya in the south. Sultan Abdi Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, the abbaanduule (commander of the military) of the Waamo Ogaden Sultanate based in Afmadow was martyred in Central Kenya beyond the Ewaso Ngiro river in Central Kenya whilst on an official expedition for instance.

Other clans ,such as the Majeerteen on the North Eastern coast of the Somali peninsular, had set up seafaring sultanates with a brisk seaborne trade. Their political control surpassed traditional Majeerteen lands to include the land of other tribes with a state structure not too dissimilar from that which existed in the Arabian peninsular. For example, the Hobyo Sultanate had a standing army, a functioning court, and a legal system based on Shariah Law.

Whilst this was the case for some Somali tribes, other tribes were sadly still stuck in the Dark Ages. Barbaric, divided, and culturally, socially, and politically regressive, they were no better than bandits and highway robbers still living in the Bronze Age. However, with the arrival of the coloniser, the sad situation the Sayid lamented came to arise as the once noble clans were subdued at the barrel of the gun by the Europeans and Abyssinians using their sophisticated modern weaponry. For example, the Ogaden in Jubbaland lost 20,000 camels in one battle on one day to illustrate the level of violence and brutality that was unleashed on them. The Majeerteen too were not spared and their sultanates were destroyed by Italian frigates and naval bombardment.

Other the other hand, the ignoble bandits and savages saw an opportunity in the arrival of the coloniser to turn around their sorry state of affairs. They became the colonisers eyes and ears, ever eager to obey their commands and fulfill every request no matter how humiliating. In return, they were lavished with weapons, wealth, and authority.

(The poet laments how painful it is when you are bested by someone who is your inferior in every facet)

This situation continued until the Madhalays (Infertile) Republic was proclaimed on the 1st of June 1960. Within this new state, all Somalis were now suddenly declared equal; the scion of nobility, history, and honour was to eat from the same plate as the scion of savages and highway robbers. Those with a history of statehood, law and order, were to share a state with a people with no concept of authority or any form of civilisation. Unsurprisingly, the Madhalays Republic was an abject failure and the civil war of 1991 was the last straw that broke the camel's back.

Which brings me to today. Einstein is reported to have defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". Today, in the so-called capital of the Madhalays (Infertile) Republic, certain segments of society claim ownership of it over other citizens, to the extent that citizens not from the dominant tribe are extradited from the city and told to "go back to where they came from". My question is, for how much longer will the noble clans continue to insist to share a state with such people?

It is my view and the view of an increasing number of other noble born people that it is time to end this experiment and to declare the Madhalays (Infertile) Artificial Somali Republic dead once and for all and let nature take its course. Those with history and civilisation will thrive and prosper, and the descendants of bandits and highway robbers will return to the state of the forefathers.

Finally, my advice to the noble clans is this: cut your losses and say goodbye to this failed experiment. Some people are just destined to sink no matter how hard you try to save them. Save yourselves and move on with your lives.
