This should be the map of current Somalia, what do you think?

Not true, under the British there were 5 and then 6 principal districts which formed British Somaliland.

Hargeisa
Berbera
Borama
Burao (later carved into Burao and Las Anod)
Erigavo

On June 26th 1960, these 6 principal districts became the regions.

I am familiar with the districts, which came under the two regions. You will agree if you reference history books at the British library.

At one point, Togdheer, Sanaag & Sool were known as Norther region, later rebranded North Eastern.

Moving along.
1960s
Two regions in the north .North west and north east with their districts.

And that was derived from the colonial legacy, as indicative of the names. Explains the reason the new Administration in Sool, Sanaag & Togdheer is now named North East. You finish the rest.

Postscript;
Keenadiid's book is a good reference. So is A/risaq H Hussien's (1954 onwards).

We should revert to the 8 regions model

This map is factually and historically wrong in so many places.

Show me the source. There has never been two regions in British Somaliland. They were always districts (today's regions), 5 in total.

Hargeisa never was a regional capital of Berbera, let alone Borama.

Only when Somalia became an independent country did they lump Hargeisa, Berbera and Borama in WG.

I’m an Isaaq. I know this vision is not supported by my people (for controversial reasons). I have a Somaliand flag at my own house (my family are the biggest Somaliand supporters out there). I always talk about the greater Somalia idea. As much this is a dream than a reality. We’ve could’ve accomplished greater things with this idea.

One race, one religion, one language and one culture. And yet divided. WTF Somalia.

Interesting, but this are districts not regions sxb.

The British referred to them as administrative districts, but they are what we refer to now as regions:

Hargeisa district is Marodi Jeex today
Borama district is Awdal
Burao district is Togdheer
Las Anod district is Sool
Erigavo district is Sanaag

Read the district boundaries on the document I sent earlier, that shows they are regions.

During the colonial period, British Somaliland (before its union with Italian Somaliland in 1960) was divided into six administrative districts, not "regions" in the modern Somali sense. It was mainly for administrative convenience.

After the union six regions were created.
