Neef isnt arabic but rather a cognate word. Nef in ancient egyptian related to wind, air and breath. Many words are falsly attributed to arabic due to it being a written language way longer than other afro-asiatic languages except hebrew.Neef and hawa are both Arabic in origin. Found that out when I learned Arabic.
It’s weird not to have a word for air tbh. It could be that it was lost and replaced by hawa, etc.
It’s the same in English, ie, “airhead”.
At my house we say layr maybe it is a dialect thing
Layr originally only meant breeze until light (layr) came along.Layr/Laydh is an English loan word.
It's neef which means both air and breath. Neef baa caloosha iga haysa. I'm sure people from my area use this word exchangeably.
