Af-Somali has too much Arabic (Semitic) and English & Italian (Indo-European). It no longer is a pristine (unspoilt) Cushitic language.

But at the same time those Kenyan Cushitic languages are now being threatened by Swahili and English and in Ethiopia by Amharic infiltration.

Beja is heavily influenced by Sudanese Arabic.

There are many different dimensions. Some can be phonologically conservative, others lexically etc. It's difficult to say.

Somali needs to borrow words from Af Maay and the other dialects like Garre and Tunni.

Standard Northern Somali is too Arabic influenced.

Neef and hawa are both Arabic in origin. Found that out when I learned Arabic.

It’s weird not to have a word for air tbh. It could be that it was lost and replaced by hawa, etc.

Relax. In a few centuries, when the Somali language is near its demise, we can use AI tech or powerful computers to assemble possible pure Cushitic words.
