Theory On Siyad Barre

An illiterate military man that managed to convince seemingly endless scores of his people to give him power, than to proceed holding on to that power to control and debase them in such a manipulative and genius way that even now, we all either worship him, or hate him, too blinded by rage to realise Barre never really died.

People thought the military bringing an end to the corrupt political elites and parties that existed in the 60s would finally allow there to be a state that can do real actual stuff and that was true in early 70s but Siyaad making himself the sole ruler of the nation with the self cult personality never settled with many of the officers in the military which created a problem for his regime and instead of trying to deal with it, he went for tribiliasm bringing in some clans in the military he could relay on to safeguard his regime and the clan he wanted to get rid of from the military tried to stage a coup against him in 1978 but failed and that's where the crumbling of the state started from.

His clansmen defend him and do all that as after he was kicked out from the capital he made a militia full of his clansmen as Somalia after 1991 went into-inter clan war and the actions of Siyaad Barre shows he wasn't actually a nationalist but a clannist.

If you read about his early life and the accounts of those close to him or those who knew him, you’d know he was bipolar and he had a bad temper, one minute gleaming with joy and happiness and the next minute filled with uncontrollable rage and anger

I remember seeing this and it ties perfectly with my theory as well, he saw the potential for manipulation with this cold/hot behavior and used it to the max in such a way that I belive he wasn't merely in a bipolar mad moment but actively manipulating others.

Uhmm I doubt that as the man after getting kicked out from the capital he should have formed a Somali nationalist armed group consisting of former soldiers to help get back to power but no he only called his clansmen and never called other Somalis to join him in the fight.

He was the first real leader we had in a very long time, as in how he was accepted as almost a part of the somali state like his communist and fascist heroes.

He never really applied any of his genius to his people, and the many successes he had early on was only a unified and motivated somali populace literally dying for the next order in any basic direction that made sense.

Uhmm I doubt that as the man after getting kicked out from the capital he should have formed a Somali nationalist armed group consisting of former soldiers to help get back to power but no he only called his clansmen and never called other Somalis to join him in the fight.

Yeah if he was really a wadani or someone concerned with his post as president, he would’ve used every single tool available to him! But the fact he chose to loot the central bank, then arm his own clansmen and then flee shows he wasn’t really a Wadani of someone who was interested in maintaining power in somalia.

I don't think he was an ardent qabilist that felt his clansmen were unique in some abstract way to other somalis, they weren't his family, I believe he was an orphan and if he had a soft loving childhood I'd doubt he'd have done the things he did, there was no warm fuzzy feeling for them I think.

If he cared about them he'd have done many different things in relation to them, but really he dragged them, along with all other somalis, down with him.

We were doing amazing!! Like I said before, Barres early success wasn't a part of his genius plan, but purely carried on the back of somalis everywhere working for their people!!

Barre simply gave the order and went back into his little house and began scheming on how to hold onto and accumulate more power.

That's all he ever did when you think about it.

Exactly, he just lead everything to shit than dipped, he held on as long as he could, as if it were a game, and then by that time he was old and dying anyways.

He was smart, cold, and calculating, he defo knew how it was all going to end the minute he started but he didn't care to think so much because the goal was power anyways.

He wanted to be worshiped and adored and respected as somebody who "ended" tribalism and united us when when really we had no problem dropping tribalism long before him.

Someone should have seized power, I agree, but not somebody worse who'd actually destroy everything rather than mess around.
