so I was reading a story on reddit where a greek American women was talking about how divorce is forbidden in her culture while greek people living in Greece corrected her and said it was actually very common and a Redditor said this

It’s that whole immigrant paradox where they perpetuate the values of their home country, as they were reflected when they emigrated. So the home country moved on, evolves, changes with the times - but the immigrants are still rooted in how they see their native culture at the time that they left.

I say this as a child of Indian immigrants - it drives me mad. And when I was old enough, I pushed back, because it’s crazy that my parents kept spouting culture, and kids back in India were living their lives far less restrictively.

and while reading this I had an epiphany will this become the somali community? in 50 years will our descendants cry about how strict the somali community is while somalis in somalia will scoff and make fun of us?

That's a nice spin to it but the reality of the matter is that the western diaspora wants to stay rooted and hold on to their religion. Living in the west makes it more pronounced and seems like a more urgent matter otherwise its getting assimilated and disappearing away. They do its instinctively for survival. You probably always heard your parents use the excuse of if we where back home you could do xy and z.

Those back home want to be western most of the world outside of the west wants to be western and adopts western culture for that reason. That is western cultural hegemony at play.

No one actually islam checks anyone back home and for the most part it's all negative news for them with al shabbab and people taking advantage of the deen.

In general there is nothing to prove since everyone is a "Muslim" and people are less serious overall about the deen amongst the masses in muslim countries.

It's kind of like someone holding onto a rope with there life because if they let go there is a deadly drop while another has a rope in there hand in a lax manner wondering what to do with it. That's the difference between most Muslim in the west and there counterparts back home.

Anyway at the end of the day as the diaspora stays in the west the more integrated they become and the less they care about somalinimo entirely in our case.

There's going to be no "bubble" in the West, most young people of a non-Euro/Western immigrant backgrounds who have grown up here will assimilate into the mainstream culture of the local western culture; their children will become even more Westernised and race-mixing with the majority White population will occur more frequently.

Not much of a difference people will either assimilate or refuse to and with each passing gen in our case not even a single gen from our parents we will be changing a lot of the things traditionally done by our parents in our households. Which is why you made this post because your going to be one of the people starting the process of assimilation.

People have already started. marriages are short lived nothing like our parents generation for starters.
