Call it petty and whatever else you like, but after you searched the entire internet you came up that the name is OCCASSIONALLY given to men and it is unisex. What is wrong in admitting these facts? Powerful nations debate these kind of issues and admit if they got it wrong. A Somali nomad would never give a "unisex" name to his male son. Why Farah? He didn't know. Simple facts.

The whole thread is about how we messed up the name in our culture because Somali nomads practice an extreme patriarchal system and if they knew Farah is mostly named after females, they wouldn't have called their sons Farah. Are you still beholden to a mistake they made?

Sxb, unlike the other names, the name Farah is highly symbolic to us and it detonates and resonates with the brave Somali male warrior. When the discussion is about a Somali male, we use Farah, that is how highly the name means to us. What happens when the name is not what we thought about and it is predominantly used as a female name? We should lick our wounds and find an original Somali name. How about Farhan instead of Farah? It negatively triggered so many guys here and couldn’t admit to the mistakes our elders made and this only indicates that we are less equipped in crisis management and problem solving.



As a female, this star has more rights to the name than a Somali man. Hayaaaaaaaaaaaay
