A large % of Smiths in the USA are German-Americans that switched their surname from Schmitt to Smith to avoid Anti-German sentiment.

In most scenarios, you'd mistake a German-American for an English-American due to them carrying English names, until they tell you of their German heritage.

100% agree. But that does not discredit the origins of the Anglo saxon "Smith" The Germains just wanted to "blend in" with the majority "smiths" & avoid the German Hitler connection

Even the royal family of England changed their german last names to Windsor!

I noticed that almost all Finish last names end in -nen (Räikkönen, Häkkinen - famous F1 drivers) and Armenian ones in ian / yan ( :lol:, think Ana Kasparian, Kim Kardashian).

This is soooooooooooooo fascinating to me walaahi. At the same time disappointing. Hhhhmmm disappointing because my previous theory was Somalis origins are either from Egypt or Yemeni. This map proves it impossible. Last names are very important, it links origins & DNA of human locomotion.

Somalis last names matches with several countries with the name of ALI

Somalia = Ali

Libya = Ali

Eriteria = Ali (which explains its always hard to separate Eriterians & Somalis when I meet them in the streets)

Kuwait = Ali (wow, this connection to this posh, part of Arabs pleases me. I mean for Gods Sake Saudia's common last name is Khan, same as Pakistan)

Bahrani = Ali (another Posh country linked to us Yippie)

Smith is an original name of the anglo Saxon, especially hailing from Britain. It is older than the name "Ali" The migration/locomotion of Britain "smiths" to Australia, America explains how important & determinative last names are as a history of study of the origins of races.

How fascinating . Djibouti & Egypt have Mohammed last names, that describes their links.

Guys we Somalis come from a pure stock of blood. Walaahi if we come together, we could be as rich as Kuwait and Bahran. We are very unique like these countries, we have a natural elitism in us that is unexplainable.

:ulyin:

The name Ali existed at least back to 500Ce or the time of the prophet.

This is what it says about the origins of the name Smith:

"The surname Smith was first found in Durham, in present day Northumbria (North-Eastern England) where an Olde English version of the name is cited in circa 975, almost 100 years before the Normans would invade this part of England"

That is at least 475 years younger and probably more, seeing as the name Ali is an ancient Arabian name.

I assumed the name "Ali" became popular after the nephew of the Prophet pbuh. Also Ali is vastly connected to Sunni-ism that's why I only guessed

Personally I have no idea about who is sunni and who is shia in the arabs

Is Kuwait & Bahrani & Libya ALL Sunnis?

First of all, Ali is the cousin of the prophet and not his nephew.

In terms of the Arabs, Bahrain are mostly Shia with a sunni leadership. Kuwait is at least 60-70% sunni with 30-40% shia population. In terms of Libya, they are majority sunni.

Then I could be right in some way huuno! Ali is connected to Sunnism, its not a coincident that these countries are majority Sunnis, with the exception of Bahrain who also have a sunni leader

possibility huuno

I highly doubt that, seeing as the most revered figure in Shia Islam is Ali and his sons Hassan and Hussein.
