that was restricted to hawiyes. outside of hawiye control the local warlords didnt brutalize and abuse their people and have highways with bandits like hawiye warlords.
icu was dominated by hawiye despite having multiple qabiils. AS isnt dominated by a single qabiil. icu couldnt get certain demographics to take them seriously by having "sheikh" indhocadde.
Many members of the ICU were no angels at all. Far from it. But undeniably and objectively it was the best thing to happen to us hawiyes. And also, it was a good movement enough to have support from non-hawiyes such as Ogadens and your clan marehans.
The reason why I defend them and support is because it was a genuine grassroots movement. By all accounts, it was not perfect but they were moving to the right directions.
The ICU handed back properties belonging to non-hawiyes in Xamar after what happened in 1991. Just shows how good the government was.
ICU even got back Abdullahi Yusufs house in Xamar. I want somebody to tell me to this day, is there an organisation in Somalia that has done something like this?
