Nobody really knows if and how much oil and gas Puntland has offshore. Its short sighted refusal for SFG to search for oil in 2012's has made it lose big opportunity. Then president Hassan wanted to include Puntland but because of disagreements and Puntlands refusal he accepted to excluded Puntland and respect their wishes. Therefore SFG only focused oil exploration from Hobyo to Kismayoo. Now oil and gas companies have focused their shift on what Seismic data has revealed over the past eight years. The oil and gas finds are huge in Galmudug, Benedir, Lower Shebelle and Jubba's. The data is good and some experts estimated it to be around 110 Billion barrels of oil. The first 7 blocks that auctioned are in these areas. Puntland's coastline is not included. Puntland is now arguing that since their coast has not been explored for oil the rest of Somalia should wait. They don't want to be left behind. But the rest of Somalia's coast has already been explored and is now ready and ripe to be exploited. So that Somalia can overcome droughts and poverty, it is crucial the government continues to go ahead with oil and gas to be commercialised . Puntland ruined its opportunity and does not have a voice to ruin other opportunity.
