The beliefs of donatism

This is religion my Berber side practices, besides Sunni Muslim and what my grandpa converted to. Aelius Donatus became Bishop of Carthage and began teaching Donatist beliefs. Donatus and his followers opposed those Christians who lapsed from the faith and allowed scriptures to be destroyed or other Christians to be persecuted, declaring them to be outside of God's grace. Priests and bishops guilty of this kind of a lapse had no right or ability to administer the sacraments in the name of Christ, claimed Donatus. A Christian who received any sacraments from a lapsed bishop or priest, in the Donatists' view, deserved condemnation.

I had a completely different idea about the beliefs of donatism. I thought it was about donuts

Donatists held their own worship services that were distinct from mainstream Catholic services. They featured prophecies -- sometimes even from members of the congregation themselves. Confession became a public ritual in which the repentant sinner confessed sins in great detail before the entire Donatist congregation, as opposed to Catholic confession which was private, involving only the parishioner and a priest. Donatists believed that once people lapsed from the faith, they could not be restored, while mainstream Catholics taught that God can forgive any sin. Also incorporated Berber nationalism as well. I have to prayer at least 3 times a day and attended mass 3 times a week. Certain music, like metal and rap were banned. I don’t know, but I do see some similarities to Islam. Donatists word infidel is traditores. Their slogan is “Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword”

Donatism appears to be one of the hereotical movements wiped out by the Church before Muslims libetarated a mostly pagan North Africa. The Berbers were polytheist mostly hostile to Christianity and then the became Muslim

Yeah, but some of their practices have passed down. https://www.google.com/amp/s/aletei...ent-controversy-can-help-catholics-today/amp/. The history of Catholicism in North Africa is very much acknowledged. Saint Augustine was Berber. I’m not saying he was black, just Berber

@Gadhwayne . I wouldn’t say that they were/are polytheistic. Saints are on the same level as angels. Them rejecting worldly values and obsession with purity seems more like Buddhism

I would not argue about their color. You can change the critetia for being Black or Caucasian to make Amazigh fit either. However the Amazigh rejected the the Orthodox/Roman Church and the Roman government. They belonged to their traditional faiths until they started to convert to Islaam

I have feeling you are a liar. How can you have both berber and somali descent and then look 150 procent bantu?
Gee golly, you mean a person of mixed heritage has non-Somali features. Shock!!! Purple lips and reddish brown skin are super traits in west Africans. I guess those racist sambo cartoons with the red lips is WAY off

@kurobecky08

1. There is no such thing as partialSoomali. Either you are from one of the clans, through your dad, or you are not

2. How you look is not a criterion

having said that I have no idea if @kurobecky08 had a Soomali dad from a Soomaali clan. And she appears to be assimilated. If thats the case, she is just one of the first of many. Almost all SoomaliAmericans' descendants will be either AA or part of some ethnically ambiguous Muslim American ethnicity

Well someone who is a mix between a somali and a berber is very light skin

The WestAfrican ancestors of AAs were probably more light skinned than a large minority or even a majority of Soomaali who live closer to equator. AA are probably more lightskined than Soomaal on average

besides skin color is not a criterion fpr somaalinimo

YOu are simply not one of us, yur great grandpa was the only full somali one and he seems to be a traitor due to leaving our religion. Then your grandfather probably was berber or half Madow and then your dad was basically one third somali and you are probably one fourth somali which is nothing you dont speak somali or know even the slightest remotest thing about us, You seem to think that berbera has something to berber as well

@Advokaten If I were doing this for clout, I haven’t claimed any qabils or being related to Saint Augustine or someone famous? My African family were mid class and just simple missionaries. My maadow actually have more money and one of cousins dated Sammy Davis Jr.

Shrugs. Well, yeah. That’s the point. I love the culture. Never denied my Madow blood. I want to learn more about it. I believe that Somalis shouldn’t integrate into western culture. That’s why I tell my story to encourage Somalis not to make the same mistake

this just sounds ridicolous, Dont you know the last church in north africa was destroyed shortly after the arab invasion, And berbers used to be christian but all became muslim. The last evidence of a christian community in north frica was during 14th century. So their is no native berber christians only i a few who became jesus lovers recently, So how are your family members of a traditional donatist berber church when such things dont exist, P.s saint augustine was heavily against donatist and considered them almost to be heretics, read the city of god

Did your direct male line ancestor come from an Azawagh clan or a Soomaali clan?

Thats how we decide if you belong to the ethnicity
