Somalia was a centralist country in 1960 and consisted of 8 regions similar to today’s FMS. It was just under Mogadishu. Then a dictator came in 1969 and cut those regions up to how he liked it and massacred innocent civilians in the meantime. Federalism today is to protect that from happening again and if Mogadishu collapses other state capitals and FMS are in tact and functioning.

i agree and disagree. if youre multiethnic then some loose federalism could be suitable. a unitary system could be seen as ethnic imperialism (pashtun amhara) etc. but youre right it weakens identity.
