Somaliland has no case, and they are making an emotional plea that makes no sense. The military regime attacked its people both North and South. The colonial argument is the weakest argument I have heard.

All in all, they have no case and people working in the Somaliland government even in the president office quietly support Somalia as one country. The people pushing for this weak argument are tribal hardliners that came together in a political umbrella called SNM which later divided into 3 parties to make it look like they have a multiparty system but in actual fact, it is a one-party system controlled predominately on their ideals of having their own tribal state.

The union didn't work due to military dictatorship, in fact, the whole Somali government didn't work and collapsed, hence it is not something specific to Somaliland and there is no difference between Somalia and Somaliland. The international community is not blind from history or current affairs and will never endorse a two-state solution without people blessing.

It can't fulfil the wishes of hardliners politicians who control Somaliland politics as the monopoly of power for themselves. The young people are slowly waking up to this illegitimate government, but they are not revolting because this illegitimate government is better than anarchy .

No one wants Anarchy, hence keep what you have and live to fight another day. The political reckoning is coming very, very soon. What that looks like god knows but the situation can not continue ASIS.

This one of the reasons why Somaliland will never get recognized, SL government always uses old heads to present their case to the world which always fails, look at their finance Minister Dr. Saad Ali Shire, he can't even convince the black anchor why Somaliand is seeking an indepence from Somalia, what an embarrassing interview the so called Dr did on this clip

I mean did he have to repeat and parrot around the election/selections all over the interview, they need to hire younger and smarter generation to present their case to world with a new approach since "We were Genocided" and "we are different ethnic group" did work.:francis:

Mr. @Manafesto, what you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read you babbling statement, may God have mercy on your soul.

If the international community recognised Somaliland any group of anarchists in any country would have valid reason to gain independence. Especially when they belong to same ethnic group, have the same language, and the same culture. They would never allow this.

As long as there is a government that asserts that Somaliland is a part of Somalia there will be no independence.

Sadly some people can't understand this or won't accept it.

The SNM would have been better off asserting themselves as the new SFG in 1991, or installing a friendly government that would give them independence. They were obviously too short-sighted.

Somaliland is already independent get that on your head and doesn't matter what International community legally thinks as it's a matter of time when Somalia sorts its shit out and has talks with Hargeysa there would be two options either recognize Somaliland or continue the status quo either of those two are fine with us but it isn't down there in the south and recognition would come Allah willing بأذن الله ☝🏾

You forgot that Somaliland was the 4th African country to get its independence :pachah1:
It's not some state that was crafted from 91.
Give this a read

I agree with OP though that we need better speakers out there as he missed some important points.
For example, this former minister would be great :kanyehmm:

Also, the point that there are political and business elite benefiting from the current status quo and not pushing for recognition like going through the ICJ courts.

"We are not seceding we are not secessionist. We are just leave the union."
LOL that's secessionism by definition, this guy
doesn't even know what it means
:russ::pachah1::lolbron::deadmanny:

@Som but wasn't SL initially an independent country before tragically uniting with your Somalia though. Becoming an independent country for the second time isn't secession

It's still secession bro. Somaliland was independent for one week and had already the intention of uniting with Somalia.
Also de jure Somaliland is still recognized by every single country of the world as a part of Somalia so you are still a secessionist brake away republic. You will remove this label from yourself if and when you become fully recognized

30 years and a dream?

Yea Nah that's not me mate.

Keep dreaming.
Horta can your failed politicians or president ever visit Hargeysa Boorama Berbera Burco ceerigabo and laascanond???

Your so called president can't even freely walk in the streets of Xamar and you're talking about the fake existence of "Somalia unity" and "sovereignty" adeer wake up from your dream and come to the reality :drakelaugh:

I'm not the one being obtuse.

You actually believe Somaliland is independent but you still want the international community recognise your country :ftw9nwa: :ftw9nwa: :ftw9nwa: :ftw9nwa: :ftw9nwa: 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡

To make matters worse you still believe things will change after 30 years even though not one country has given you what you want. Not even a pariah like North Korea and Eritrea.

Ok if I'm not independent where's somalia's authority in Hargeysa Boorama Berbera Burco and ceerigabo???

Why can't your president visit the most peaceful region in the horn??

Sxb we don't care about international recognition that you walawayen are obsessed with what we care about is that we rule our own territories away from the failed state in Xamar and developing our nation without your help.

@Som you're definition of the word secession is very broad and international experts on independence/secession such as James Ker Lindsay would accept SL becoming independent for the second time in 1991 isn't secession

We won't agree

Secession isn't a bad word dude, I'm not using the word in an insulting way.
You were once independent for one week. You joined somalia and stayed part of it for 30 years, then you separated and declared independence.
What happened in 1991 is secession , I don't know why it offends Somalilanders
