I think that a lot of people comparing al shabaab power to taliban is ridiculous they would wish they had the same power as them everywhere the go they have been repulsed of you ask Afghanistan government which terror group is way easier to deal with they would say al shabaab their the biggest scrubs you can't bought them at the same level even the US government has said there not external force anymore they do hit and runs the Taliban is litterally walking into bases and these nacas afghani soldier are just giving up without a fight.

The glaring difference is Pakistan, Taliban is actually made up of disciples in Pakistan. The Pakistani sheikhs donate countless millions per year to support the taliban. This coupled with weapons flowing from Pakistan further leads to a strong taliban.

The US also sent way too many troops and weapons into Afghanistan. Taliban have taken these weapons & vehicles to use it against ANA which is extremely corrupt.

Al-Shabab , on the other hand, has no friendly bordering region and has no access to advanced weapons. Al-Shabab also only controls villages and small towns thus leading it to have no major influence.

On a side note, the Taliban will begin infighting as soon as US/ANA is toppled.

Afganistan is a rough country with rough terrains, Taliban has advantage in their. While taking off Alshabaab needs just surveillance drones (with an A.I. will be better) all around southern Somalia with active military, around 300 million dollars each 2 months for that job will eliminate Alshabaab for good.
