Old news but mashallah.Do remember all foreign donors to the election don't set the conditions nor dictate the process as it's all somali controlled. To give you an example there is no qouta for women or minority clans that the donors impose on the government unlike in a certain country who's electorate process and implementation are at the hands of the donors (Somalia).Self sufficiency is key however as there will come a time where there will be demands set which will undermine the government.

Did they give it to muse?
Why when reading your post I remember SL election fund scam during Dahir Riyale .

Even election committee admit on that time, budget for election disappear lool, then UK start investigation on election fund money.

I think this time it's hard to steal election money.

Its always sad to see how unimaginative Somali politicians are. They need to focus in resource development, 350 million budget is enough to begin low scale mining and resource extraction operations.

Instead after 30 years they are still begging IC for a few millions.

350 million is pretty much nothing when talking about national budgets. Small cites in the west (Im taking 50 to 100k) have city budgets of 500 million

You do realise a nation of 3.5M-4M who have a measly budget of 350M is hardly effective to run a functioning government that pays it's civil servants and carry it's operations. It was kind gesture for them to donate which will pay dividend inshaaAllah.Do note despite this funding foreign donors only contribute 6% of SL budget.

With the low scale mining it's a dam shame SL isn't an independent country that have direct access to financial institutions like the world bank and IMF to fund such projects.Even it's de facto status within the most failed country in the world makes it infinitely harder to attract private investment. However, things are improving with the future economic zone and DP world that will ultimately give private investors the confidence to invest in Somaliland.

A very good example is Trafigura who are one of the world's leading independent commodity trading and logistics houses.Their revenue last year was more than 100$ billion.Keep an eye out on this development.

Somaliland again with picking the losing side. China will most likely annex Taiwan by 2030.

It isn't a losing side when you're benefiting from establishing a relationship with Taiwan when China offers you nothing at the moment.

Your aim is recognition within Africa. Do you know how many African countries recognized Taiwan and than retracted?

China excerts strong influence in Africa it is not wise to spite them in favour of Taiwan. Latest estimation says China will be ready to annex Taiwan by 2027, than what?

Short term you receive aid, investment and political relations. Long term Taiwan can not sway the west to recognize Somaliland, they don't hold such sway that's why I called them losing side. Any US/China war in the future Taiwan is a sitting duck.

uncle sam is on the decline and losing or lost its status as the worlds superpower. the american populace dont have the stomach for another invasion. if china annexes taiwan biden will be like obama when russia annexed crimea. americans arent gonna die for taiwan or ukraine.

sl cosying up to taiwan is not very beneficial in the long term.

Americans won’t but the allied south Asian states will. It would not be in the surrounding nations interests at all to let China take over Taiwan it would mean loss of access to the key trade routes and power projection within the area.

If China occupies Taiwan

SL's status will be settled before 2030 imo so it doesn't matter that we angered China bcs of the benefit Taiwan can bring. Polarization in the Horn is a good thing for us since Ethiopia has made it's bed with the CCP and Djibouti is quite warm to China as well.

SL status will be settled when the Somali government in Xamar has a stable political system, it’s then Xamar choice to sign off on Seccession.

Until then, it’s best to milk Taiwan and others in the meantime and make partners with those that Xamar anger. Eg:UAE

You're point of budget limitations doesn't hold when we are looking from a 20-30 year perspective, not even a fund has been created to ramp up investment in any resource sector.

Most of SL's budget(excluding livestock) is from taxes on imports and Ethiopian exports. This is not conducive to growth at all, SL has already suffered from the coronavirus pandemic due to bans on livestock exports exposing the precariousness of the situation.

Are you telling me that geological surveys to acquire an adequate picture of the mining capabilities of the region needs billions of dollars worth of investment???

Somaliland won't ever survive as an agricultural region, this limits GDP to the population and land capacity which are both low.

I blame the lack of political parties, it forces power into old corrupt heads who can't see beyond their last decades.

At the end of the day what matters is the citizens of SL who have already benefited from this newly formed relationship which will only grow.

Geological studies have already been conducted in parts of Somaliland over the years and there have been proven resources such as

To extract such resources you need significant capital to mine it out and unfortunately due it's situation makes it hard to attract such investment.Of course the politicians are inept and that knowone denies but their options to access to finance is limited.

Sl can barely pay it's civil servants and run public services yet you're expecting a fund.Instead the government should be priotitising making it easier to do business in the country to attract foreign direct investment through legislations and etc.The government is already trying to implement this through the establishment of the free trade economic zone in Berbera.
