Obviously if u know that this is the only way u would guarantee that ur daughter get married u will have this procedure done on her. FGM is not hard to stop at all. The FGM rate in Eritrea used to be 95% in 1995. Now it is 1% in Under-5s and 3.8% in Under-15s. All the Govt did was force religious leaders to disassociate the practice from religion and denounce it. Anyone who partakes in FGM is swiftly locked up. Job done.

If every federation did this, FGM would virtually be eradicated in Somalia

I get where you are coming from but we can agree to disagree. Men play a part but I don’t see FGM as a patriarchal practice. Somalis have those traditional standards for both genders. Not being a zaani is held up for genders.
