I don't think anyone here is trying to disregard what he did. He was an authoritarian, and a harsh one who would prosecute the locals at will. That's undeniable.

But at the same time, parallels can be drawn between how the locals' lives have changed, when we got a new leader. For me and you, it's easy to call out his authoritarian nature, but for the people who had a fairly stable and modest life during his reign and now being displaced and occupied, they will feel differently. That's a valid point, that could and need to be said without being a supporter of the former administration.

As far as mistreatment, it's not very relevant here compared to other border areas since these are 100% Somali inhabited land.

Look at Tigray, a couple of days ago Getachew Reda (former TPLF spokesperson) was named interim president. Despite being installed by Abiy, the first thing he did was calling for Amharas to cease the occupation of western Tigray. Imagine if Cagjar was bold enough, just simply by calling out perpetrators against Somalis, which he haven't ever done before. And we expect how to bring any meaningful change to the region?

He sent some 600 plus Liyu police to the area, and they along with the local ciise fighters captured many of the disputed territories and the afars were chased out, then Abiye brought in federal government to "keep the peace and mediate" and the liyuu and ciise were told to move back some distance. The afars were told the same thing and the Ethiopian federal soldiers sat camp between the two. The next morning, liyuu police and the ciise were attacked by afar and massacred. I think the dead liyu soldiers was more than a 100, forget about the civilian casualty. This is a project by Abiye Ahmed. Someone on here gave an interesting analysis where they said, the Ethiopian federal government does not want Somalis anywhere near the railway that goes to jabuti because if in the future the Somalis go to war with Ethiopans, all they would have to do would be to cut off that supply.

Anyways, Somalis everywhere should see Ethiopia as their first, second and third enemy.

In end all order comes from Addis, and very little can technically be done to make any significant change.

As many have said, Ethiopian Gov wants to quietly cleanse Sitti from any Somali. They want that region to themselves. Cagjar will give them that.

Maya walaal, I’m not surprised by anything with regards to the Sitti situation. I’m well versed of the plans by Abiy & Co. for the region.

Anyone with any slight information on the ground knows that the Afars don’t have the capabilities to do anything on their own. Previously Cisse could fend of the Afars pretty much on their own, and now the losses (human lives and land) is beyond measurable, with sufferings on a mass scale.

If you’re talking about this ‘incident’, I first heard it from my family/relatives.

But as far as footages, it’s circulating online on social media. Everything is documented, even live of the actual protests. Mainly Facebook and to a lesser extent tiktok and twitter. I tried linking all my posts, but fb doesn’t really work that well here.

As far as the development of Sitti for the past 5 years, very little have been written about and thus gained little media traction. Hence why few people know fully about everything going on, unless you’re from the region or connected. Tbh, I don’t really know what sources I know as I only follow actual updates of the conflicts on social media and nothing more. But if anyone else know, please post here.
