Magan means what ? How does magan’s related to Abdi’s meaning?
It's not exactly the same thing. Abdi correct translation in somali is bidde or adoon but since the name abdi is from a foreign language it doesn't feel insulting.

Magan is hard to translate. If you say magangelyo, made out of to words magan-gely is putting someone under your protection. Somalis usually say magan alle magan rasull. Sometime it's used as an insult as in magankey ba tahay which means your under my protection or i rule over you. Magan is one of these very old somali names it was even mentioned in futuh al-habasha written 500 years ago.

How about the name Allamagan? If that’s even how it’s spelled.

Yes if i recall correctly it's the correct translation. I think it's a rare name i've only came across it while reading about somalia but never seen or meet anyone with that name. I think the correct translation would be allahs protection or he who seek protection from allah.

For reference here is a translation of magan. The arabic equivalent would be استجير astajiir not.

There is even a beautiful arabic qasida on it.

I have met only one Allamagan and always admired that name. Even without knowing its meaning, it sounded very beautiful and important.
