There’s nothing wrong with Abdi + one of the 99 names of Allah swt but just Abdi is weird. Abdi= Slave, it’s like naming your kid Adoon. It probably doesn’t click for many of us since we don’t speak arabic but translating it into english or somali made me realize how dumb of a name it is.

That’s probably why I’ve never seen an Arab that’s named just Abd, like my name is is Slave? Ismi Abd? Magacaya wa Adoon

I’ve never seen anyone named Abdi before the 20th century. It seems like with arabization, they started taking up more arab names even if they weren’t islamic or made no sense. Have you noticed in our abtirsi, the farther you go the more somali they get. The last arabic name in my abtirsi is my great grandfathers name, it’s all somali after that.
